Once again, I know I am asking a question that has been around the block, but just incase anyone has a different view or perhaps an area has developed a little more in the right direction, we are after some decent family areas in South, South West and West. I know that everyone has different views but there are area's we've heard that are really 'no go', and sorry to offend anyone, but Liverpool and Bankstown keep cropping up
Due out in September, we have to be within about an hours commute of Holsworthy. I don't think the central Sydney or the North is feasible as far as the commuting time is concerned, but I am quite happy to be proven wrong. Good schools state or private and facilities for kids aged 9 - 14 would be a bonus. Not worried about being too close to the beach but again it would prove a popular choice all round!
Looking to rent initially (have subsidized rent via employer) and have toyed with Campbelltown and Sutherlandshire. Haven't really looked north of Liverpool and can't seem to find much on BE about that area, but all comments, good and bad are welcome
Thanks in advance, although haven't had much luck with replies in the recent past - must be the way I tell 'em

Thanks WW. I think I was looking at one of those threads earlier and it prompted me to ask again!
Have you any more of an idea where you think you'll try?

):Hornsby/Mona Vale as northern point
Waterfall/Sutherland as southern point
Strathfield as far West I'm looking - any where beyond that seems to be hillbilly territory!
... and anything that falls in that area is fair game at the moment.

The is a high chance that any work I get will be based in the CBD looking at current job advertisements. As I want to be within 1 hr travelling I've decided to box off the following on the map and then look at the house prices and investigate the areas (I'll be back on here once I have a few places in mind!

If you need public transport and definitely want to rely on the train for this, then I'd stick to the Hornsby and North Shore lines this side of town. Can't comment on south, as it's not my area of knowledge.
If you can handle buses, then the Northwest region (Cherrybrook through to Glenhaven) is also good and it takes less than a hour by citybus to the CBD.
Good luck with your search!

Thanks glorianic
I think St. Ives is a little too far east for OH to commute to work in a reasonable time. We are now looking at Baulkham Hills, Castle Hills, Kellyville and Pemulwuy and we are erring towards Baulkham at the moment.
It seems there is a nice swathe of areas out that way and as we have family thats where we will be looking.
Once again thanks for your reply.
