I've karma'd you the answer.
How good is that.
Just goes to show how chilled out it is north of MV.

We moved here from Queenscliff (which is also a great suburb) to reduce our rent.
We went from a 2 bed unit to a 2 bed house and saved $50pw.
The added commute time was 30 minutes more to cbd.
I should come clean and say I don't commute to the cbd, but I would do if I needed to. Friends who do tell me it's only 1h15m.

Nice area! Thanks! I'll consider it as an option.

Don't want to make it sound too nice.
We found it cheaper, renting, than any of other NB suburbs we had considered.
It's quieter, friendly with a village atmosphere. We hope it'll be ideal for bringing up kids.

Well I don't do it regular but I have tackled rush hour traffic from Av to the airport 1h30m, Centennial Park 1h15m, Homebush 1h.
If you know the roads and the best "rat runs" it's not so bad.

Small, unrenovated house in the inner west (well, Newtown, Glebe, Balmain, Leichhardt where we were looking). Or larger house under the flight path.

Only problem I can see with looking for somewhere to rent somewhere further away from the CBD is the lack of rental housing stock.

Oh, and if you move over to a western suburb, it will be a longer journey to the beach - and often the beaches haven't got the most accessible roads to reach them by or great public transport (eg Bondi, Balmoral etc)

And that's not all..you'll get warmer in summer and colder in winter as long as the suburb is further to the beach.
