This is such BS. Yes, it was a bit of a reputation but to just generalize it ridiculous. I have been away from Sydney for 4 hours but regularly visit and own property in Western Sydney. I lived in Sydney for 10 years.

I was in Sydney for a decade and lived around many places...some of them in the Western Sydney area. I never felt any more unsafe in Western Sydney and certainly won't be any less vigilant in a 'non' Western Sydney area.

Yes, having lived it Western Sydney, I may be little biased but lets not generalize.

when i was early 20's and earning 40K a year with my wife making 30K....there wasn't a chance we could buy our own first home in affluent subs. So western sydney was very attractive due to price point. That's the way we started...it does not mean we didn't want to live in northern sydney nor does it mean we hated western sydney.

If I take a step back then western sydney was it all....malls, properties, train, transport, hospitals, schools, restaurants, bars etc. So its pretty liveable.

End of Rant

No one has actually declared the whole of western Sydney unsafe in this thread. Though someone declared 2 suburbs potentially unsafe, that happen to be in western Sydney

It's a question of personal perspective. Someone could come from a really rough/crap area in the UK (or wherever) and consider these possibly 'unsafe/rough' Sydney suburbs to be a major step up.

Don't move to kings cross it is very rough that's the red light area

Blacktown some areas of Parramatta, Cabramatta should be avoided. basically look around ask the neighbours look for the same stuff you would in the UK. As with everywhere there are good parts and bad parts of any suburb.

Walking around Cabramatta you can't help but think, "boy would I not want to live here." I recall the place from many years ago, and although even back then it would not have been a place to even remotely consider, it was at least bustling with activity. Nowadays it's a dump and even good Vietnamese food is elusive... which pretty much sums up how downhill it has gone.

I'm not entirely sure about that these days. I think you might have a better chance of getting a paid for good time elsewhere. Also drinking time caps have meant partiers go elsewhere now. Nightclub owners hate it. Residents love it.

I'm not convinced any suburb anywhere in Australia needs to avoided because it's dangerous.
