Great to have one (ours is in a rental, so we're test driving) but they are quite a pain to maintain. And if/when water is a huge issue then it's gonna be expensive to top it up!

There's lots of little bits of a pool to consider, like chemicals, filters, equipment and i seem to spend a lot of time skimming the leaves/bugs from the surface (but we are near a lot of trees).

That said, there's nothing like coming home from work and running outside, stripping off as you go (a la Superman) and plunging in in your pants

Hmm, bit too much info maybe....

Well, in the couple of months we've had ours we've had the pool shop in to put some tablets in (stabilisers @ $15) and the other day some bloke came around to do the monthly check and put $17 worth of something in

Are we being conned?

I put chlorine in every few days or so, and the bloke said to put acid in, which i haven't yet at all.

sounds like it to me

I take a sample to the pool shop get it done free, and add anything needed myslef last year I would say I put $50max of salt and chemicals in. At the beginning of the swimming season this year I put in less than a litre of acid ($10 for 5 litres) and that was it. Last few weeks nowt required....too easy

you can buy test strips out of Coles $12 for 50, I use them a couple times a week in the height of summer so its easy to know that the water is OK Its easy to do it yourself as long as you keep ontop of it
