Total sunblock is just the worst isn't it - when mine was a baby and I had to put that thick white block on him his skin used to be horrific - I haven't managed to find a suncream yet that doesn't bring out eczema. The skin on his legs goes from normal on day one, red by day two then infected eczema on day 3 - even if I prep him with double base it doesn't work. Poor thing, I'm hoping that he won't get it this year.

Dont take suncream with you.

The rules on suncream are far more regimental over there and the quality far more superior. They know what they are talking about.

Oh well reading this thread the theory that so many have said about the old eczema going when moving to Oz has gone right out of the window then!!

I have had loads of people say this to me (my daughter suffers) that with the climate so much better means that the eczema clears up, and that was from a skin specialist as well!!

Well there may be some truth in it - I know when we went to Hawaii last year I was plastering the suncream on my son and he didn't have a single bout of eczema when we were there - I thought great it's finally gone. A month later at home I put the same suncream on him and his eczema came back with a vengeance.

People in Oz managed to get by from before the 1950's before suncream was
invented or widely used, just wear a broad rimmed hat and long sleaved shirt if going out in the sun during summmer for a long period of time.

Warning to All

Be very aware of the Sun - Both my parents and older family members are suffering from years of working in the Sun in NZ and Australia. They have to have regular 6 monthly checkups and have growths burned off them. It is not a nice experience I can tell you.

They also used to wear sun hats and long sleaved shirts - the effects can come back to haunt you decades later.

You can also get sunburned sitting in the shade or even wearing some light clothing.

It's called "Tallebudgera Herbal" Keeps the bugs away and didn't aggravate the eczema.

Pollyana have you tried to buy it online? www.boots.com maybe worth a try.

Different people are affected differently, you probaby wont know for sure till you get here.

My daughter suffered very badly in the UK, but no problems here now.

I have one that was recommended to me for my baby, who was then about 4 months, by a pharmacist. It is called Sun Sense low irritant. It is chemical free and is for huffily sensitive skins. Just beware as it stains clothes. I put it on before getting dressed to avoid this. We both have excema and it doesn' t annoy our skin. Hopefully it would be ok for you as well. Though I am not sure if different things trigger different people's excema.

I've seen quite a few for sensitive skin, but can't vouch for them because I've never used them. Sorry!
