I sure did my lovely, everybody knows Joondalup is a pikey pommy enclave. I have to go and do the annual sports shoe shopping this morning, I have raided my wardrobe for my finest Everton shirt which I shall wear with some baggy shell suit bottoms. I will be class man

No, thankfully abandoned that once we entered the 1990s.
I must add that I do not possess a pair of tracksuit pants. The only time these should be worn are for housework (and you don't leave the house in them) or a decent pair for exercising in. I am sorry but any female that wears trackpants as a regular item of clothing needs their head looking at!!

Whinging about Scarborough is common on this forum espeicelly from people who can't and will never afford to live there. That Western Suburbs area is where everyone who is somebody in Perth aspires to live and raise a family. The area has improved and will improve further now has about 7 bars. Scarborough unlike Freo is where the beautiful people are. In terms of Culture, Bars, Cafes though Freo is superior but it's hardly a reason to move down there.
Scarborough was the biggest victim of Perths large Bordem factor about 8 years ago. During Perths teenage Import car craze the place was besotted with import cars, heavy drinking and even a riot back in 2003. This forced major changes to the beach which is now after all this time only now starting to recover. Before this...It was dominating fremantle

Hi everyone! Thanks for the replies, and lively banter!
To answer a few of the questions.. We are going to be renting for 6 months and are looking to spend somewhere around 300-350pw in rent. We won't have a car to begin with so will be reliant on the buses/trains to get to and from work. My wife is a teacher so she will hopefully be in a school somewhere and I'm going to be doing any work I can get.
I guess both places will have pros and cons but we were just worried that scarb may be too quiet/not enough going on with restaurants/cafes/bars etc and that freo is 'industrial' and too far from the beaches?
We have noticed that freo is a bit more expensive so we probably would have to get a smaller place to compensate but we're not too worried about that.
Keep the advice coming-more the merrier!

Well tell your friends from me that they really are superficial wank stains being the result of a frantic tug off and not even a good masturbation session.
Where people aspire to live? Are you kidding me? I have seen alot of beautiful places in WA and would dream to live in many of them but aspiring to live in Scarborough, Jesus christ on a bike, no thank you.

Did you just really say that or did you get that sentence out of a cornflake packet? Is this coming from the influence of your 'friends' who tell you where you can and cannot live or they will disown you?

I lived in Sorrento when I first moved over. We wanted to stay around that area when we bought. We looked at plenty in Trigg, Carine and North Beach and although we could have afforded them they did need a lot of work and my husband, god love him, isn't a DIY man. I have heard you moan constantly about lack of facilities and services where you are. So my house may only be worth $700k compared to your $1m+ but I know which suburb offers me better amenities. It is all about finding where suits you best rather than picking somewhere to be liked by others.
Some areas are more expensive than others, that's just how it is. Some people would consider that we live a long way out. I remember soon after I came to Perth, a woman at work asked me where I lived. When I told her, she replied that she couldn't live that far out. It's only 12 km from GPO
!. I asked her where she lived and it was in South Perth - an example of the Perth suburb snobbery that is common in certain circles here, and referred to by Weebie. I never brag about where I live, in fact, I have never said on BE where I live. However, when people from other areas have a bit of a dig about where I live, there are subtle ways to get your point across without being unpleasant

Freo. Middlesbrough with sunshine. Smelly ugly docks, disused buildings, bogans who believe because they pay $800 a week rent that there real classy, a beach that isnt worth a look and "period buildings" that remeind my of central Middlesbrough and the worst restaurants in WA and that is saying something.

Freo
Little Creatures smells of hops and beer brewing , Kallis Bros smells of fish , who would have thought , haven't been to every pub for a meal yet but it always seems to be lively and a good day out.

Not bad beer and not bad fish. But both massivly overpriced tourist traps. Anyone who thinks that going along and spending about $12 a beer is good doesnt need to be drinking. I imagine there medication is plenty. Same for Khalis.
