speed camera's
#32
If there is a legitimate reason then they should be on blues and twos to warn other road users of their elevated speed. Period.
I have two brothers, one a fast response paramedic and one police officer. If they need to go above the limit/though red lights then blues and twos no question. The old 'operational requirements' is a complete cop out!!

of instances where the police would legitimately drive above the speed limit
without blues and twos.

does anyone know do the speed camera's have to flash for you to get caught,
I didnt realise at the time but I was stupidly was doing about 108 in a 100 when I saw the small little sign on the side of the road that you have have just passed a speed camera,
it certainly didnt flash, I dont know if they have to or not, it was bright with no cloud and this was in Perth, has anyone seen them flash or am I holding on to false hope that I got away with it

if the camera didnt flash it either didnt have a bulb in or works off infra red , you could research this if you get a photo of the camera and go on the net , if it flashed you would probably of seen it [ even in bright weather ] . lastly if your vehicle is a company vehicle it most probably will have a gps tracking device fitted , if so you could go into the history and find exactly when this happened and also record your exact speed between given points , if you are under the speed limit on the tracker and have been issued with a fine , well take it to court , belive me it wouldnt stand , gps is admissable in court , [ it doesnt lie ] . hope this puts your mind at rest .

I just had to reply to this point. When our house was being broken into at 3am while my children slept the police didn't want to know. We dialled 000 from my husband's mobile to say someone was breaking into our house and the response was "ok we'll send someone around". Did they ask our address? No. Not even which suburb we live in, never mind our street or house number! Calling from a mobile there would have been no way for them to know unless we told them. The fact is that here in WA the police don't give a s**t about you being robbed while your children sleep.

So what happened next? did you ring back or did you deal with the situation yourself?

[QUOTE=I believe the authorities don't usually prosecute unless you are in excess of 10% above the posted speed limit

Not 100% sure...but Ithink this is an outdated assumption in the UK.
The new digital camera's clock the actual speed of the car and the new digital electronics and better engineering in car manufacture is taken as accurate.
Hence complaint that speedo watching can cause accidents.
In Oz it seems normal for there to be at least three warning signs about camera's, so if you get nicked.......
Heading out of Melbourne a couple of years back, we spotted a copper with an hand held speed camera hiding in a bush!
So in Oz at least - the UK habit of slowing fo rthe camera ..then legging it to make up time....is not a good idea.

A lady I used to work with 18 months ago was broken into in the middle of the night. She is a single parent with one child. Being woken by the intruder's noise and absolutely petrified (as you can imagine) she called the police with him still in the house and tried to get them to come out. They did .... three hours later.

When the place we were in got broken into, the only time the police were actually interested, was after the owner contacted the local station. Being an Inspector at Roma St HQ, did give him some bragging rights to pull rank.
BTW, speeding police cars doesn't necessarily mean they were actually chasing someone or going to a callout.
Years ago a cop told my mother "do what I say, not what I do".

I got flashed by a camera on the Roe highway more than 6 months ago. I'm guessing that after 6 months of waiting that I'm not going to get a ticket

8 weeks ago I went through a speed camera doing 80kms in a 60km zone. I knew I was in the wrong and just waved out the window to the camera operator. "Touch wood" to date, I have not received a ticket.
I know I shouldnt have been doing the speed that I was and I also knew that speed camera vans operated in this area. Stupid oversight by me but the big sheepish smile and wave to acknowledge my wrong doing might have gone a long way.
