does anyone know do the speed camera's have to flash for you to get caught,
I didnt realise at the time but I was stupidly was doing about 108 in a 100 when I saw the small little sign on the side of the road that you have have just passed a speed camera,

it certainly didnt flash, I dont know if they have to or not, it was bright with no cloud and this was in Perth, has anyone seen them flash or am I holding on to false hope that I got away with it

I believe that most car speedometers can be out by about 10%, certainly in the UK, the authorities don't usually prosecute unless you are in excess of 10% above the posted speed limit.
With that in mind you may have been under the speed limit anyway and if they work similar to the UK, they may not prosecute until you are up to 110kph.
Hope this helps

Tolerances vary from state to state and are generally thought to be much lower than the 10% given in the UK. Vic's for example are rumoured to be only 3%.

thanks for your replys but would really like to find out if those bloody black tripods things flash at you.
I thinks its 9k's over and its points but cant afford a fine right now, saying that it will take them 6 months to send the fine out anyway if you believe the media

As far as the Qld Police Minister and the Police Commissioner is concerned, the official policy is that there is a zero tolerance regime in Qld.

I wonder if they apply that same principle within their own organisation?

You'd be surprised how many time the words "operational requirements" can crop up when they get nabbed by the press. For example, when the new camera on the Story Bridge went online, police vehicles were reported in the press being caught on film but no official action was taken according to the press releases at the time "due to operational requirements".

The AS for speedos is that they shouldn't under-read at all (i.e. show a lower speed than you are actually doing) and should only over-read by up to 10%. So if you mention the 10% allowance to a cop do not be surprised if he starts giggling at you.

The allowance in Vic is 3kph (or 2kph with a fixed camera). If you're caught then they knock the allowance off the recorded speed for the ticket. For example if you were doing 65kph in a 60 zone then you will get a ticket for 62kph. Just saying this it confuses some people as to how they can get a 2kph over ticket when the allowance is 3kph.

Sorry can't help with the OP but hopefully your speedo is over-reading and the tolerance is probably higher than Vic. Note that in Vic, you can get your first ticket (in a three year period) reduced to a caution (no fine) if your speed is less than 10kph over the limit. You just need to send them a groveling letter saying it was an accident and that you've learned your lesson.

My husband had one where he was definitely flashed - on the Mitchell Freeway and another on Reid Highway where he was not flashed that he can remember. It did take about 4 months for the ticket to arrive as well. In WA there is a very low tolerence. His first ticket he was going 106 in a 100 zone.

So I guess that when your house is being broken into or some
loon is trying to kick 10 shades out of you, you wont want the police
to speed getting to you?

Of course. But what about the rest of the time? You can't have one rule for one and one rule for another now ... can you?

When the place we were in got broken into, the only time the police were actually interested, was after the owner contacted the local station. Being an Inspector at Roma St HQ, did give him some bragging rights to pull rank.
BTW, speeding police cars doesn't necessarily mean they were actually chasing someone or going to a callout.

Years ago a cop told my mother "do what I say, not what I do".

Of course it doesn't necessarily mean they have good reason.
Point is, how would you, or the press know?

I Know for a fact they do prosecute police officers speeding in police vehicles here in WA. My brother in law was finded when he was caught on camera, he realised after he should have just pulled over the car in front for a routine check and that would have been his excuse for speeding and had the fine quashed.
