Is South Australia the worst state.

It's not in recession. ABS figures show that SA has experienced economic growth of 3%.
The rest of the country is not "booming". Tasmania's economy has the value of a 5 week old potato, while the NT... well, do they even have an economy up there?
A Tasmanian Government information paper confirms the state's population is expected to age faster than any other state and already has the highest average age.
ABC.
Hardly.
SA is known as "the Festival State", due to its large number of festivals and cultural events. These include the South Australian Living Artists Festival, Australasian Masters Games, Fleurieu Folk Festival, Lesbian And Gay Festival, International Guitar Festival, Festival Of Arts, Clipsal 500, World Congress and Performing Arts Festival for Young People, Veterans Golfers Union National Championships, the Adelaide Fringe Festival, and many others.
The Adelaide Fringe Festival is the largest event of its kind in Australia, and second-largest Fringe Festival in the world. Only the Edinburgh Fringe Festival (which I recently attended) is bigger. The 2006 Adelaide Fringe was attended by more than 900,000 people from all over the globe, who spent almost $40 million.
You obviously haven't visited Belair, Black Hill, Morialta, Cleland, Flinders Range, Gammon Ranges, Mount Remarkable, the Barossa Valley, the Riverland, Naracoorte Caves, Bool Lagoon, Tantanoola Caves, or Innes National Park.
And that's without even mentioning the Eyre Peninsula.
Because it's a great place to live.
A new report from the Australian Bureau of Statistics shows that most of regional South Australia is experiencing strong population growth. The Australian Population Institute says the report shows there has been a turnaround in what had been decades of population decline in rural areas.
The fastest growing area was the Light Regional Council covering the Barossa Valley.
ABC.
while the rest of the country is booming
it has the oldest population in OZ

few international tourists visit it.
Most of the state is ugly desert only good for British nuclear bomb testing

why do people want to immigrate there.

The Myer Centre has hundreds (thousands, even?) of people through it every day. If somebody jumped from the top floor, there's no way you could hush it up.

l was told large numbers of people had committed suicide from jumping off the myer center balcony and that the sail cloths were installed to stop the suicides and prevent the jumpers from landing on people below. Maybe the person who told me was'nt telling the truth, l don't know. From what l was told they didn't report most of the suicides in the media incase it gave other people the same idea.

I've always enjoyed myself in Adelaide, although I treat it as a bit like a trip to Bendigo or Albury, and compared to those other two similar (lol) country towns it rocks ![Wink](https://britishexpats.com/forum/images/smilies/wink.gif)
I may manage to escape to there, the 3rd week of the upcoming football (soccer spit, hate that word) season, now that kind of trip should be treated with trepadation as Adelaide has special kind of welcome for visiting Victorian AFL fans, although I dont think Melbourne Victory fans are quite as placid as your average AFL fan, and far more able to cope with the special onslaught that Adelaide will provide
Could well be interesting in Adelaide that weekend, possible 2,000 travelling fans

[QUOTE=ozlord;5199869]
They did when l was last there in 2003, They not actually nets but large pieces of cloth tied under the balcanies near the escalators designed to catch jumpers. Has anyone else seem them. l think they are called sail cloths or something, like the things people have in their backyards for shelter from the sun but much bigger. Somone told me they were put there to stop all the people suiciding there, the myer center was worried that one of the jumpers would land on top of one of the customers below and they could then sue them.
Is that you, Lord Pom Percy?

I visited for 5 days earlier in the year and have to say it was as bad as id expected, the people that moan about Perth being isolated would be suicidal there. There was just nothing positive about the place, people had tried telling us the Barrossa was so much better than Margaret River they must of seriously been stuck in a time warp, we drove all the way up there and it was just sort of dry and grey and bland everywhere, even the cellar doors at the bigger named wineries were far inferior to what you see in MR.
As for Hahndorf what a complete waste of time that place is, its one small street of a couple of pubs and stack of junk shops, and the flies were absolutely unbeleivable bad enough in Adelaide but in Hahndorf it was disgusting.
I would do everything possible to try and avoid going back there.
I think id even go as far as saying id rather go back to Hobart in preference to Adelaide![EEK!](https://britishexpats.com/forum/images/smilies/eek.gif)

I like Adelaide and it was for a while my 2nd choice after Sydney before Melbourne came along.
Sydney being Melbourne's younger sister.

Vash with respect mate, how would you know that, the Authorities dont report them.
One of our postie blokes doubles as a "body snatcher" IE: cleaning up after sucides and recovering people from accidents etc. You'd be suprised how many people jump from shopping centre balconies. It happens a lot, I wont go into detail but one lady and her child narrowly escaped death by a jumper at Melbourne Central, missing them by a fraction. Nothing in the papers, nothing on the radio, and the body and parts spread over 10 metres.
Oh but no nets,
FYI, I think the Westgate bridge average here in Melbourne is about 2 a week, again no nets.
