I have just received confirmatiom of my VISA approval and have agreed a price with a shipper,as to save a few quid I will be packing this myself, this is where my I'm a bit confused. Is it better to pack clothing in plastic containers or do I use cardboard boxes?

Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

In our case, everything is being packed into sturdy plastic crates (with interlocking lids) instead of cardboard boxes. If you are going to use cardboard boxes, I'd recommend adding a layer of cardboard on top inside each box, so that there would be no damage to the contents if customs use anything sharp to break into the boxes. Failing that, go with boxes that have lids.

How much you need depends on how much you are packing and the method you are going to be using. It really is a question of how long is a piece of string - no joke ;-)

also buy moisture sachets you can buy big ones you hang in container about £30 put them in boxes only small 1gram ones and acouple of hanging ones and youl be fine.in the uk we used wilsons insurance for marine transit insurance about £245 for 20 ft container
I hadn't considered hanging the large ones inside the container itself but that certainly sounds like a very good idea. I've just checked and the 600g packets can be had for around £5 on eBay.

Hi Nevsy
I am using a company to ship my wordly goods. I have been advised not to take candles for two reasons:
Beewax is a possible issue for AQIS (quarantine people) (although my candles are all parafin wax)
The climatic changes the container will go through on its journey could well cause your candles to melt into a big mess. I guess that would depend a bit on how they were packed though.
I have decided not to take mine.
