Re: Settling in Perth 2007/8 List

Hi Guys,

Great list.......We are now in Mindarie staying in a rental for the moment.....

Welcome to Perth mad chief......bet you thought the weather would be better eh???? It's been lousy for the past 2 days but hopefully it will improve soon (fingers xxxxxxxed)
We have bought the obligatory bar-b-que.......oh needs to assemble it....when he does will let some of you guys up north know and come around for a barbi.....if anyone from down south wants to come then please shout!! As for the BIG BBQ I don't mind oranising a date.....think Kings Park would be a good place as fairly central for everyone......but think we should wait awhile for the weather to improve!!
Feeling really homesick at the moment so really need to meet some people and socialise....:(
Best of luck to those of you travelling soon......
In response to the question about Scarboro......I think it is an area for the younger crowd who enjoy the social scene......has got a bit of a rep but I think it is slowly improving.....a friend used to live there and had no trouble (but has no kids either!!)
Pam x x

Pauleen , my OH Sharon is also a Hairdresser, she was mobile in the UK but she's not sure what to do now  Have you got any plans?

Thanks for the update !!!

Just been checking over the list and it's great to see where people are heading and if they fly the same day......it all helps.

Thanks to you and Mad chef for all the hard work

Someone asked about Scarborough. I jsut wanted to say that it is beautiful in most parts there but it is renound for back packers so IMO would not be very child friendly.....this is only my opinion. We shopped at coles down there a few times and had no problems there, The beach is truelly amazing.

Hi,
we land in Perth on the 31st October, i know we put on the list northern subs but hubbie has now had a job offer in Bibra Lake so we are not sure now, we are defo up for the BIG BBQ, so we can meet people and also the kids, our eldest who is 14 has been having a few wobbles so the sooner he gets a few mates the better.

A bit of advice please for those that are already there, we have booked temp accomadation for 3 weeks do you think this is enough time to find a permanent rental???????????

Hi there, we got here on the 2nd October and have a 3 week rental the same. We have only viewed 3 houses but we had trouble getting on the net. Had to keep going to the library at $2 for twenty minutes. Try to get online as soon as possible as there are loads of places where we are looking but you need to phone the agents in the morning to see if there are any open viewings that day, they just don't show you round like here, they like to get loads of people to look at it at the same time, then you take an application from and fill it in and give them one weeks rent as a deposit if you want to apply.

Let us know if you need any help when you get here, send us a pm and we will give you are mobile numbers.

Sarah

Thanks for the info  will update & upload list a bit later.

Regarding the 3 weeks to find a permanent rental  there are loads that have done it but you may be putting a lot of pressure on yourselves, there is loads to sort out when you arrive, schools(not forgetting being in catchment area if it's not a private school!), WA driving licence, tax file no., cars + car insurance, medicare, centrelink, shopping, to name but a few & on top of all that you'll be trying to look at long term rentals & you may even have jetlag  As Sarah says above, they tend to have viewing days to go & look, they don't(I think?) make a special trip out to show just yourselves round!

Just me, as i like to take things at a slower pace, but I would try & get 1 or 2 more weeks in the rental & try & enjoy the scenary a bit more, the more time you have, the more you'll see, the better informed you'll be & you won't end up with a lemon of a rental that you are stuck in for 12 months

If you can't extend your first rental, don't worry as loads of people have found an unfurnished in 3 weeks & hey, what do I know

All the best,

Chris :)
