Quite agree with the above! Hey, you're in Cleveland - how long have you been there, do you enjoy it - perhaps we can pick your brains nearer the time? Meet up too?

Been here nearly 5 years now and love it Cleveland has just about everything we need apart from a cinema (7kms away) and beaches (little one at Raby Bay tho.Train into CBD is approx 1 hr if you need it and travel to Gold Coast also an hour (if you need REAL beaches) Feel free to pick what little brains there are when necessary No problem meeting up either ( as long as it's in a pub ) Good luck with the move Not a guru on Redland Bay but imo not a lot there compared with Cleveland but hey ho and all that, that may be what you're looking for

Can I just ask something?

Do your friends have to be in their 60's???
I only ask because we're in our 30's and have friends in their 20's, 30's, 40's 50's and up.....

I'd like to think we could have a broad age range of friends out there too...
Ok I can see probably from your point of view it means that if they're the same age it's likely your going to see more of them and have more in common.
But whats to say you couldn't strike up a friendship with a couple in their 30's ? or a stay at home mum?

I'd certainly welcome friends of any age - in fact we do have friends in their 30's already (we're 58 and 61) I think we kind of meet somewhere in the middle! As they say you're only as old as you feel and we certainly don't feel too old - yet!

Thank you, we have joined Meetup and booked for a walk quite near our son on 31/3. Also went to the local spiritualist church which was brilliant.

There is so much going on in Queensland, and the meetups cater to all ages and all interests.....if you can't find anything you fancy start one up yourself! Good luck.

Not agist in the slightest and would be very happy with friends from 30 - 100, one of my best friends in the UK was born almost exactly 10 years after me and another born almost 15 years before me.

Have you knocked on all your neighbours' doors and introduced yourself? And asked them round for coffee?

Are you the sort of people who would join the Lions, or Probus, or volunteer for meals-on-wheels one day a week? Or a Landcare group, or wildlife rescue? Just Google all these for your area.

Unfortunately they blow hot and cold and we cannot be doing with people who are great friends today but not for the next month and then suddenly want to be friends again - we did try a couple of people but no go - more hopeful of the people we met on Sunday.

Ohhh they're a bit Katy Perry then? we know people like that here in the UK - doesn't inspire you to want to give them much time does it?
Those people we say hi hows it going and carry on with our day

OMG is it the new people that need to knock on the doors of the neighbours??? :$
When we lived in Illawong NSW the neighbours were knocking on our door, though that may be cause I was unwell and they probably didn't see me emerge from the house for weeks at a time, perhaps they feared there was a dead body inside and wanted to check LOL

Right now, I am feeling very very homesick and ready to get on a plane back to the UK. We are in our early 60's.

We love to play cards, some board games and have a casual interest in photography. Walking is a great favourite with us, especially if it is with views to live for.

Would love to hear from anyone within a 30k radius if at all possible.

Forgot to say that we are originally from the UK, lived very close to Heathrow Airport where my husband worked for almost 37 years.
What a shame you are in Queensland. I do sympathise. We are in a similar situation still trying to make friends our own age. We love walking, pub lunches etc but are in WA. We did a lot of exploring when we first arrived. We do miss our walks in the Peak District and Yorkshire Dales. Also feeling a bit homesick as we have left our son in the UK. I think it is a bit more difficult for us than the young one who come over here as they find it easy to meet people in the same situation going out to bars and clubs etc and through work. For people our age who come over, there are not so many of us and it is often difficult to break into the established social circles. It’s a bit more difficult for us as well now as hubby has gone back to work full time to help with the finances, so we really only get out at weekends. Have you tried Seniors Clubs? We went to a Seniors Fair where there were representatives of different hobby and interest groups. You could try contacting the Seniors Recreation Council to see if they have any information on what’s going on.

Incidentally ValMatt53, my brother lived in Cleveland for many years, and recently moved to Ormiston. We love Cleveland (but family is in WA) – maybe we could meet up when we next come on a visit.

Hi Dave and Linda, that would be really good to meet up when you visit Ormiston and something to look forward to. At the moment we are impatiently waiting for our CO, hopefully should be July/August and as we are going for the 173 initially, fingers crossed we get visa by Sept/October and we will be on the first plane outta here! Will keep in touch. Val x
