Where are you located? And where was (country and profession) this 15 year experience gained?

Sounds like it depends how desperate you are. Its not a great wage for 8 yrs experience - we all know that. If you're out of work and there is not much else about go for it

numpties.
Could be helpdesk, or the guy could be a SAP genius. Or could be printer engineer.

The problem is, in Australia 'X years of experience' is meaningless if it's not AUSTRALIAN Experience [daft I know but everyone I talked who has come from overseas has been told the same thing]. First thing the agent told me when I arrived : "You need to get some Australian Experience". So the last 15 years working in London and overseas and all in technical roles means bugger-all then ?
If it's your first job in Australia go for it and stick it out for a year. After that you will find it much easier to go for other jobs.

Yeah its a yarn. I got a job over the phone before i came here and all my UK experience counted plus some. Agents use it to suit themselves. Although i've been told UK experience counts wheras other countries experience won't - ie Indian experience etc. Terrible but thats the way it is

Depends who you are, how good you are and what the job is. Seems low to me though.
Incidentally I got a job over the phone with no Australian experience but 10 years in UK so haven't seen the problem with non-Australian experience. We too are interested in international experience when we recruit.....

My questions are:
Have you actually been offered the position?
If not, you don't even know if the job is for real - they might have an internal candidate for whom this job was created.
If you have already been offered the job, what sort of role is it? What do you do in IT?
Is this going to be your first job in Australia? Have you been looking for a job for long? Is this the only offer after dozens of applications? Are you under financial pressure? If yes to all these questions, may be it's not that bad an offer. At least get yourself some local experience.

I need a pay rise! 20 years experience, and getting about the same amount as what you've quoted (ok I get overtime and more overtime and benefits, and more overtime). But still, someone with 8 years experience, getting paid that amount. Get a grip. Unless you can re-write SAP from the ground up or create a entire network ecosphere from the ground up, be very very grateful if you can get that job.JTL
