Question re 138 bond, validation, centrelink
We validated our 138 visa in Nov 2005 and paid $5000 bond. This was to be repaid after 2 years (or 30 months?). The 2 years obviously are now up however we have never registered for Medicare - OH thinking that because we had 100% private medical insurance we wouldn't need it. However, I think it has bigger repercussions - can anyone clarify?
How does Centrelink know that you are in country? Is it through immigration at the airport when you first validate?
We would like to give the $5000 to our sponsor as a thank you for their trust in us - but when do we get it? The sponsor has tried to get answers but noone seems to know.
Thanks
Galba

Have you been living in Australia the whole time? Your immigration records and bank statements, rental/mortgage receipts etc would prove you've been there - send a letter (old fashioned I know but more likely to get a response!) to Centrelink and ask what the go is. Good luck!

The bond is due for repayment 2 years after the visa was validated.
