The reason? We became citizens last night!!!
It was a lovely ceremony at Joondalup Civic Centre, we were naturalized along with about 70 others, got to swear the oath on the bible, got to shake the hand of some dignitaries, got the plant and got the certificate.
One thing I noticed was the last couple of groups called forward for the affirmation, without the bible were a much scruffier bunch that us bible bashers - many in jeans despite the invitation letter asking for a reasonable standard of dress.
I wonder what they must wear when they are not at a special occasion - a sack?

I'm not bothered about it (can't complain when its as important as it is)... but I am bemused why it could take so long and how it is run. Do they get you to walk up on the stage seperately like at graduation or do you say it all together in one big group?
(I'm off to launder my sack)

DIMIA do update their system to show the details of new citizens, although to what extent (and on what timescale) that automatically removes your visa details from the system is unclear.
No matter what is the case on the system - your visa ceases once you become an Australian citizen.
You are expected to use an Australian passport, or, in exceptional cases, an Australian Declaratory Visa in a foreign passport will also do (form 931 has details).
