Permanent Resident Visa Cancelled!!!!

Yes, you read it right. My and my family's PR visas have been cancelled!

The reason? We became citizens last night!!! :D :D :D

It was a lovely ceremony at Joondalup Civic Centre, we were naturalized along with about 70 others, got to swear the oath on the bible, got to shake the hand of some dignitaries, got the plant and got the certificate.

One thing I noticed was the last couple of groups called forward for the affirmation, without the bible were a much scruffier bunch that us bible bashers - many in jeans despite the invitation letter asking for a reasonable standard of dress.

I wonder what they must wear when they are not at a special occasion - a sack?

It seems like it's traditional to get a native plant as a gift when you become a citizen.

Brit's don't have to give up UK citizenship, we're dual citizens now - Aussie/Brits.

Congratulations. Incidentally your visas have not been 'cancelled' - it's just that once you become Australian citizens the Migration Act 1958 provisions cease to apply to you and any visa you hold becomes null and void.

Australian citizens cannot legally apply for, be granted, or hold any Australian visa.

OMG small world eh!! Mum and Dad still live in Sholing, I went to Sholing Girls school then Southampton Tech College and most of my friends had been to Bitterne Park primary, I went to St Monica primary as was near us, then shifted from Southampton to Nottingham in 90's and then back to live in Woolston before we moved out here.

Try this for a bit of nostalgia

that's a pretty prejudiced view, don't you think?

i won't be swearing an oath on the bible when i become a citizen (i will not be a hyprocrite) but i'll be going dressed smartly. i'm sure there are plenty of god-squad members that would go in jeans too.
