I think that you may very well be right Gary! I think that people in the UK take the NHS very much for granted. That said though, I think that here in Aus, your wait for stuff to be done via Medicare is very much a postcode lottery much like it also is in the UK. Some you win, some you very much lose.
I personally have been on the receiving end of needing treatment this last month & I can tell you I did have concerns but a lot of that is about where I live being relatively remote. I imagine if I lived in the Scilly Isles it would be similar!
I am sorry if you are not having a great time being a nurse here, but maybe some of that is location.
Maybe it is worth trying somewhere else before returning to the UK, which I understand is going through yet another re-organisation.

WA joined the AHPRA approx. 2 weeks ago, I think it was the 18th October. So you now only register with one national board ................
