Nice area with 30 mins of CBD of melbourne
Hi
Just trying to find a way to view what prices a rent house would cost us,so
Just trying to find out if we had a job with the cbd with about half hour travel time(car/train) where would be a nice place to live?
East side is prob best?
We have 2 boys 11/8 so close to beaches and all that jazz, but area has gotta be a nice non rowdy area
Just so we can start to look at property rentals in a certain suburb?
Thanks
jase

Are you after 3 bed or could you live in 2 bed?

Also try Ashburton, Chadstone, Ashwood (next to Ashburton)
You might be lucky with first areas mentioned as we now approach the winter months traditionally slower rental period of the year.
You could also check with Margaret3 how long it takes on the train from Glen Waverley - thats rental for under $500 for 3 bed homes in a decent australian suburb.

Does your wife have a particular hospital she will be working at?
Nothing wrong with starting with high expectations You might be lucky and tick 60% of them with some compromises.
What compromises will depend on you and what you find when you arrive.

How about Mordialloc? By the sea and about 40 mins (?) by train to the CBD. There are modern developments there - not sure of the rental costs, check www.realestate.com.au

What sort of work are you doing that requires a ute?

Ute,cos im a plasterer in the uk,so maybe a change job.
But would come in useful cos i will ferry my motorbikes around
And we are a adaptable family,so flexible is our middle name
But just need a starting point and see if or what boxes we can safetly tick.

Re: Nice area with 30 mins of CBD of melbourne
Hi
We are currently living in a place called Gardenvale which is just north of Brighton and have a modern 2.5 bed townhouse (they call it a 3 bed but I am not convinced!) for 550/week. It is about a mile from the beach, 5 mins walk to the train station which is 20 mins from Flinders St... But we don't have a lot of outdoor space (which suited us). Gardenvale has a small high street with shops, restaurants and cafes but it is not far to Elsternwick or Brighton if you are after more choice.
We agreed this house in the April and in the time we were looking rents were falling in the Brighton area so worth making an offer if you see anything you like - from what we saw, at the moment you would be able to find a reasonable 3 bed for under 600 a week in the surrounding areas....
Cheers
Gill and Chris

Richmond? Carnegie, Glen huntly, Bentleigh (but be pushing the 30 mins)
Perhaps OzzieEagle might add if he sees this thread some of the areas north of the city ie Preston Coburg Fitzroy? Bohemian, trendy and excellent routes to town.

Takes OH 40 mins on the train,, GW excellent suburb to get anywhere in melbourne, however i would also recommend watsonia, ave been hanging around there recently looking at houses to buy, schools and area according to my aussie collegues state schools are excellent and houses still affordable, its about 18k, direct line from city, ideally am becoming more and more used to and settled in GW, (which is 19k from city) the thought of moving makes me feel sick, but needs must, the house prices are shocking around this area, mainly due to good reputation of suburb and shools.
We now pay 350 for our 3 bedroom and 2 bathroom (well one an en-suite), not the poshest of houses, but feels like our home now, a mistake i know when renting.
for example looked at this property recently
