I could be wrong, but i think i read on a previous thread that alot of tradie jobs are not advertised on sites as much and better of going round to various sites.

We are still in Uk and moving over next year, OH is a carpenter. Going for reccie in october so i think he's going to have a drive round and have a look whats going on and hopefuly find out some useful info.

sorry to say but a brickie in perth has just said that perth is on a bit of a slow down, on the job front. hope there are other jobs, becasue we are the same as you, love the look, and life style of perth.

Originally, many years ago now! we looked at adelaide - no particular reason, only that we actually know someone there! But our agent advised, with OH trade, we would be better to try state sponsorship with WA, so thats how we "chose" Perth

Not entirely sure of suburbs yet as there is only so much i think you can do from the sofa in blighty, but thinking more SOR, Baldivis, Secret Harbour etc.

What about you?

Is that www.jobsearch.gov.au you are talking about?

if it is, I would suggest you are better off looking at www.seek.com.au, www.mycareer.com.au, www.careerone.com.au, www.job.com.au or www.gumtree.com.au

I've always found the jobsearch website to have a very poor selection of the actual jobs available, although its sometimes good for getting other data.

Specifically, what kind of building job are you looking for? brickie? carpenter? trade assistant? roofer? ....?

I posted this on 13 March and others have also suggested websites:

On one of the links below, it's a UK bricklayer who's set up his own business, perhaps email him and ask how to get started. His website has photos of previous brickwork, so maybe you can get some evidence of what you've been working on in the UK and some references. The building trade might be very quiet here at the moment, though. On the gumtree site, there are several ads from British or Irish bricklayers looking for work.

aston is an unknown quantity at this point
Default Re: much building work in perth?

ive been here 4 years, things are up and down,i mean that in the positive not the negative..from what i can gather thats perth...

touch wood i aint been out of work yet....

at the moment its a little slow, but i dont know anyone who aint working...
im sure theres room for a few more...

ive spoke people who are flat out, then others that are not so..unless you get yourself on a big job, your never going to have more than a month or so in front of you, thats how it is here,,

so,if it was me coming over here,i would like to read that there was loads of work here and i was never going to have to worry about being out of work...but i cant write that, get yourself on a plane, try not to worry and you will find work here.....

oh and if your just referring to perth, there are other place in WA to work, that are apparently booming, but it aint here in Perth and that is a fact.

rates are an average of 270 a day....

just read this again and i would also like to add, things get easier here after a while, you meet people get regular custom and so on and so on..

good luck...and god knows where ill be when you get here, but you nevr know i may be able to help yer out..

With thousands of Irish backpackers flooding Australia sorry to say but there really is no need for skilled migrants in the trade sector anymore.

There were about 15,000 WHVs granted to Irish citizens last year...15000/52 = about 290/wk. I see lots of them around here, guess what, half of them are female...and don't seem to be working on building sites when I see them on the train in the morning.

Only in WeebieWorld would this become 100,000s of Irish brickies per year!

I have to agree i have not come across many irish builders out and about, most of them are from the manchester clan or down south london tribe, you can tell the southerners they wear all the safety gear and follow H and S to the letter That and the man utd tops england tops and general neglect of any form of sun cream protection.
These are grocery shop observations and the many thirsty camel outings that we bump into these types purchasing vast amounts of hard drink, they have to be builders to support such a costly habit

You must be having a laugh. Having worked here now in the bulding game for nearly 9 months I'd say there is still an abundant shortage of skilled tradies. Only problem just now is that a lot of the work is 'in the pipeline'. Come August/September there is supposed to be a boom within the industry and they'll be crying out for experienced people.

This seems to be common theme with comments about WA...stuff is always in the pipeline, huge projects are always just around the corner. It feels like people have been saying it for years on here.
