You may have 'class' but you do not have or talk about 'high class' unless you have little or none.

Thousands a week? More numbers pulled out of your ass?
There were about 15,000 WHVs granted to Irish citizens last year...15000/52 = about 290/wk. I see lots of them around here, guess what, half of them are female...and don't seem to be working on building sites when I see them on the train in the morning.
Only in WeebieWorld would this become 100,000s of Irish brickies per year!

if your looking for cheap then Australia is not for you. It really is as simple as that. In answer to your question in terms of salaries and cost of living Melbourne will be much worse than Perth. The Bay Area in Melbourne and Inner Melbourne is good the rest of the city is a massive dump and the North West quandrant is no go as far I'm concerned. You also won't find Australians living out West of Melbourne grim as.

There is the middle (E) suburbs. Loads of infrastructure.
There are green areas to the NE - the likes of Eltham were popular.
There is the likes of the SE - Berwick has always been popular. The new (S of the highway) and the old (N of the highway). Take your pick.
There is the likes of the W - Caroline Springs etc and new estates.
Close to the city outside rush hour is a prominent win.

we have spent a lot of time hell bent on going to perth, but as a bricklayer im not happy about the job prospects, and the cost of living, all looks to expensive. so only just started to look at melbourne. there seems to be a lot more jobs. has anyone got some local knowledge what its like to bring up a young family there. what is the best sub (cheapest) for schools and beaches. thanks.

Seriously OP, what are you looking for in a suburb? If you're a tradie might it be good to be living near growing suburbs? Public transport? Proximity to the city? We live a 20 minute train ride to the CBD and can walk to train station and buses (and will be selling our house reasonably soon
).

My kids, born on these shores often get raving reviews on Facebook by all and sundry.
They're great kids - and they know how to impress: (The little monkies!)
One has started school - and I'm quite impressed with the whole setup.
They do so much - bizarre - as I was rather under the impression that all they would do is watch DVDs.
I'm excited to see what we will get up to. They get the opportunity to do things that might not necessarily come their way in an English town - (which is mostly circumstantial of course so don't all go to "Bikini Red" and launch your Exocets...)

In answer to the OPs thread title -
Yes.
As are many other places.
But you are quite right to be placing work options at the top of your list as it is little use a place being good to bring up kids if you can't obtain an income!
