Less than 50 votes is hardly indicative of anything imo

There are heaps of Brits here in Dubai clamouring to get into Australia (not just Brits, expats from all over the world). I know a few that have jobs or managed to get visas and are moving there in the next couple of months. Dubai is still halting projects and dishing out redundancies and none of them want to go back to the UK.

I'm one of those. I'm always a bit confused by those that are 'all Tory' or 'all Labour' as I don't see how they can always agree 100% with one party or how they can't see when their party has cocked up. Talk about blinkered.

A newish 3 bed semi in my area is about $330k, (about £165k at a more normal FX rate) although not many semis about, most are detached.

This one is a $330k 3 bed, 2 bath, 1 garage place.

For rentals in my area, this semi is $300pw

Brits would move to Chernobyl if they thought it would lift their status.

$330k is about £198k now, isn't it? Ouch. I thought Brisbane was supposed to be one of the cheaper cities too!?! A year or so ago (when we looked on the internet) we could just about afford something in Adelaide (the cheapest place by our searches - barring Taz of course) but now we can't find anything there in our price range! (that isn't a step down from our current house - obviously we're not prepared to downsize, the idea is to have a better life and nice house, not the other way around!).

Few years back Brisbane was cheap, not any more, prices have risen very steeply in the last 8 years or so.

House prices are based on the ability of people to pay for them. Qld and WA have strong economies and you can generally earn a good income, therefore higher house prices. It's the opposite for SA and Tas.

Sydney and Melbourne have higher house prices than Brisbane - does that put Qld in the 'rust bucket' state category? I noticed the unemployment rate in Qld was up again yesterday.

This jobs thing is quite confusing, great number of jobs created but unemployment slightly up,....can you decipher this courier mail front page story for me: http://www.couriermail.com.au/busine...-1225866276586

"After a tough start, we've created jobs for Queenslanders for nine straight months now," Ms Bligh said. "Queensland was the biggest jobs-generating state in the country – more than one third of the 18,300 jobs created Australia-wide last month were created right here in Queensland."
