does that include rent/mortgage repayments?

The most significant price rises this quarter were for automotive fuel (+4.2%), pharmaceuticals (+13.3%), deposit and loan facilities (+3.4%), vegetables (+10.3%), electricity (+5.9%), house purchase (+1.2%) and hospital and medical services (+2.9%).

The most significant offsetting price falls were for furniture (-4.6%), fruit (-5.7%), domestic holiday travel and accommodation (-2.3%), audio, visual and computing equipment (-5.9%), men's outerwear (-6.7%) and children's and infants' clothing (-9.9%).

Not sure... the RBA quote 1.4% for Goods alone, and 2.9% for all groups.

but... as far as rents go...

Brisbane median rent for 3 bed house (based on about 3,400 new rents in March each year)
$370 March 2009
$380 March 2010
a 2.7% increase, a bit under the CPI rate.
http://www.rta.qld.gov.au/zone_files...brm_houses.htm

However, for those living in the premium areas, eg: Ascot/Hamilton it went from $460 to $550, or a 19.6% rise. They are the ones that hit the newspaper headlines

No mention of places like Lutwyche/Windsor/Wooloowin where it dropped from $450 to $430 for 3 bed townhouses.

ABS seems to report different for some reason. They look at the year December to December, so maybe there's been a big jump in wages since last December.

Your link shows that the increase in the trend index through the year to December quarter 2009 for all employee jobs in Australia was 3.0%.

My quote was for full-time adults: ordinary time 5.6% rise in last 12 months.

If you look at the 6345.0 Labour Price Index, Australia
Hourly Rates of Pay Including Bonuses: Sector, Original (Financial Year Index Numbers for year ended June quarter) you see these indexes:

Financial Year Index ; Total hourly rates of pay including bonuses ; Australia ; Private and Public ; All industries ;

Jun-1999 69.4
Jun-2000 71.4 a 2.9% annual rise
Jun-2001 73.9 a 3.5% annual rise
Jun-2002 76.3 a 3.2% annual rise
Jun-2003 79.0 a 3.5% annual rise
Jun-2004 81.9 a 3.7% annual rise
Jun-2005 85.0 a 3.8% annual rise
Jun-2006 88.5 a 4.1% annual rise
Jun-2007 92.0 a 4.0% annual rise
Jun-2008 96.1 a 4.5% annual rise
Jun-2009 100.0 a 4.1% annual rise

The 3% figure appears to be the Quarterly Index ; Total hourly rates of pay excluding bonuses ; Australia ; Private and Public ; All industries ;

Is that per month? That sounds really cheap! Although if it's per week then it's ridiculously expensive! Where I live (Northants) you'd pay $708 per month for a 3 bed semi.

Sounds reasonably priced. $600.wk would be expensive.
