I miss the supermarkets but the longer Im here the more Im learning you have to go to the bakers for your bread and the butchers for youre meat and the bottle shop for your booze, we are so used to everything under one roof, the fruit and veg is brill, the kids are trying all sorts of different fruits and the smoothie maker is never off but the biggest gripe for me is the cold meats I cant get any decent ham anywhere, again you adjust and find an alternative, just find an awful lot of their meats are processed, I also used to buy aunt bessies yorkshire puds cant get em here so I spent a few hours making batches my self after five attempts of different recipes I finally made them and so much nicer than aunt bessies and took me no time to make and believe you me I aint no master cook I burn everything , but yes miss tesco but we are getting fed and watered found bacardi breezers yesterday and was in my eliment didnt have them last year when we came on a reccie, so Im happy still at the feel so lucky stage,

How I would love a Tesco... I even dream about walking down the aisles filling my trolley with everything I need under one roof.
I have now given up work because it takes so much longer to cook things, so little variety in the shops that it all needs to be made from scratch. No way of just grabbing something out of the freezer because kids were swimming till late!
Now I may have to go back to work because of the price of food! :scared:

Give me Coles or Woolies any day!
Here in the UK, I have both Tescos and Sainsbury's close by. The meat is crap and sooo expensive at both. Fruit and vege is usually not fresh and only lasts a couple of days before going off. Most food also seems very manafactured and cardboard tasting. The use-by date is usally only for 2 or 3 days after purchase. Not to mention the staff behind the counter seem so rude and abrupt - god forbid trying to get a hello out of any of them. The lazy sods have a chair to sit on, you'd think you could atleast get a smile out of them
Maybe it's just my local stores, I dunno, Just don't see the fuss I read on here about UK supermarkets.

I like being able to buy strawberries for most/all of the year for $1.50 a punnet, but some of the other fruit does seem HUGE - it makes you wonder what fertilizers or whatever they put on it to get it that big. And I saw the most humungus chicken breast the other day, how it got that big I just don't know, I didn't know you get chickens that BIG. I just wonder what sort of hormones they injected into it???
Anyone out there know where you can get Californian Zinfandel?

Tesco front page news in the UK over the weekend. They plan to convert to cashless stores but not within a year or so - i.e. you can't pay by cash at the cash register, must use plastic. Reason - they want to reduce their costs because of the costs of cash handling, extra security etc. Much adverse comment from older people who can't/won't embrace the notion of only using plastic; much adverse reaction from people worried about the mounting debt fuelled by plastic.
It also said that 1 out of every 8 pounds spent in the UK is at Tesco.

Had to reply to this one when I saw Tesco's mentioned - I visit to Tesco's in Stevenage, Hertfordshire whenever I have any doubts about why we are moving from the UK to Oz!

OK, OK, I get what you mean, the markets are great and we are now getting some really great fruit, veg, fish etc. BUT I still miss my little treats from M&S at the weekend, although I suppose I will also grow out of this?

Never thought I'd be pineing for a Debenhams.

personally I prefer cooking meals from scratch and cant remember the last time I had a ready made meal. Nearest tesco's to me is over 20 miles away so its sainsburys or asdas for me..
