I'm more concerned with the guy on the left. Is it going on the fire?

LOL I didn't really think about being cold in Australia! I haven't worn so many clothes since I was a kid with just a log fire to heat the whole house! Guess you forget!

I remember clearly feeling freezing in winter inside when we lived in Oz. People here in the UK don't believe me. It's down to shocking build quality, plus: badly fitting single glazed windows, no double skin walls, no double glazing (which is effective, and reflects the sun if a solar reflective film is fitted), poor insulation, no central heating. Wa sat around oil heaters in the middle of the room. It seemed to be better in another flat that got loads of sun, but that flat was intolerable in summer. I think double glazing would help.

Yeah we have only got a log fire as well and it is a bugger to light. Last time I had to do this was in about the 1970's. lol. Hmmm... I am looking at brissy lol.

We have specified tilt & turn double-glazed aluminium windows which come with exterior flyscreens: if you have outward-opening windows then flyscreens are a bit difficult as they have to be fitted inside the glass - the only practical way is to have sash windows then.

Thanks Wol! Put that way it makes perfect sense ... I feel a bit dim now!

This is our second winter as well. God, it's parky. Deffo need a hotty in bed, and am debating getting a lecky blanket.
A few weeks ago I was down in Pemberton and we rented a cardboard (!!) lodge in the forest. Bloody parkey when we arrived until I got the wood burning stove up and running. Went to bed, the next morning - bleedin' hell. My daughter, all 2 years of her, stood in front of the stove shouting "switch it on mummy, switch it on", followed by me going outside in my slippers and jammies looking for kindling to get it going. My mother, also on the trip and just over from the UK, refused to get out of bed until the fire had been up and going for a least an hour. Wouldn't want to be down there now, I can tell you.
And to cap it all, my skin is so dry, I look like an old fossil.

Re: Migrants, my house is absolutely freezing...
Stayed with my parents in Bunbury on the weekend, I won't be complaining about Perth again!
They had a wood fire though, but that was at the opposite end of the house from the bedrooms! First night not too bad, it was cloudy. Last night was clear, and I was cold, but when I cuddled up against Pascal again, it was alright.
I just hate getting out of bed in the morning, putting on clothes, etc etc. Or getting out of the shower!
Anyway, they're moving to Bridgetown again soon :scared:
We lived there before, when I was a teenager. I was talking to my brother about how we managed down there... there was a fire place in the lounge, and a fire stove in the kitchen, and a little electric heater under the dining table, that was it. No electric blankets, nothing in the bedrooms!
My brother reminded me we used to change out of our pjama's and into our clothes in front of the fire in the living room in the morning!
And I'm not talking 20/30 years ago, this was 10 years ago!
I think I'll have to get mum and dad an electric blanket for their birthdays in August(a bit late, but they're not moving to Bridgetown until then anyway).
Though, dad was already talking about organising heating for the bedroom there anyway.
