Ive had a friend visiting from the UK...he can't believe how cold it is indoors & can't believe we don't have central heating. I have to keep telling him this is nothing...come back in August! We had the heater on in March this year!

Almost all the houses that I have been in in Melbourne do have central heating at some level - either ducted of some type or I have even seen radiators (called hydronic heating here). There are many that don't though, especially the older ones. Many older houses are designed around a central fire which is intended to heat the entire house.

I've had AC in both of my houses, the new one only has one split system and I'm not looking forward to it. Even this summer that has been the coolest yet, we've had it on a fair bit.

But YES to heating, although its not been on hardly at all this winter so far...cant wait to light the fire!

Before we had kids, my wife and I have enjoyed working in great cities , London, Dublin , Belfast ,Edinburgh , Cardiff, which was great, but now we have kids , I dint see that city life would suit us as in a life based around a large city.
I see Melbourne as a great city but not for kids, which is why we are favouring Perth for the weather and the beaches. Yes there's the fact it's a plane ride from everywhere , but it allows us to live the life we want which is outdoor next go the sea as it's great for the kids.
I'm sure people will disagree , but having good weather all year round is a positive us and nit having to base out lives around big cities as we've done previously looking for good nightlife etc
I will miss the sports events a city like Melbourne has but it's about the kids for us now and what's best for them

Mate, anywhere can be great for kids if you let it. We have kids and every weekend is packed with doing stuff with them or taking them to do stuff somewhere.

Can you get work in Perth? You seemed keen on Melbourne earlier because of the work availability. If you can't get work easily in Perth then living there will be shit for everyone, kids included, you can't eat sunshine.

Perth doesn't have 'good weather' all year round. You'd be better heading to South East Queensland for that.

It certainly doesnt. They've just had 6 months of pretty much over 30 everyday. How that is classed as "good" is beyond me, but hey ho, each to their own.

It also has a cool, wet, windy winter (normally) when SEQ is basking in sunshine.

They seem to have 2 seasons...extremely hot and then (feels) extremely cold

But again, each to their own. I live in Melbourne, we get shit weather 24/ 7 apparently, so what do I know?

I'm sure you could, but after 6 months of same same same I got very bored, theres only so much to do in 35 degs, but again, each to their own

I love that we get 4 distinct seasons in Vic and we get very hot summers and can go sledging in winter, each to their own....just sayin
