Question Re: Mechanical Engineering Position

Really hoping you get this even though it's an old thread - can't PM til I have more posts! We are trying to get to Aus (East Coast ideally) but are limited to ENS in areas outside of SA. (SIR an option there) Hubby has Skills assess/asco codes and experience as mechanical engineering technologist and is very experienced 3d drafter BUT its mainly aerospace and Catia. He is more than willing to cross over into other areas and is fast on the uptake but who'll give him the chance - and on a ENS? 457 not a great idea as he's approaching 44 and we'll run out of time to get PR.

Any suggestions/recommendations?

Have sent you pm

The position is for an immediate fill and requires expertise in mechanical engineering e.g. understanding of mechanical engineering principles and materials etc as well as competency in AutoCAD.

Erm Frank....I think that'll have been filled now. It was advertised 11 months ago.

Was observation one of the requirements?

Thats good to hear as were off to Perth in a few months time, my partner is an engineer - fitter, he works for Princess Yatchs at the moment working on the posh boats but has worked in a cement factory as a fitter for 17 years, do you know of any large companies in Perth we could contact to ask for jobs?

There's a large shipbuilding company in Perth called Austal that builds ships for the US Navy. I'm sure they would have him. Failing that, there are plenty of refinery, chemical plant, mining, heavy equipment operations around that would employ him. Engineering is still booming off the scale here and there is no end is sight. He will have no problem finding work. I do design work, so different from him btu I was speaking to my agent yesterday and he was telling me that companies that are waiting for projects to kick off are keeping their guys on rather than letting them go and re-hiring. So they have them sitting around doing nothing as they know that they will not be able find guys when they need them.

Good luck.
