Also on both flights we had about 4hrs to kill at stopover and KL airport is pathetic. At Singapore, a well kept secret is that for not very much money, you can make use of the air side hotel pool & facilities - we had been tipped off and all you need is something to where, everything else is provided down to a complimentary drink. For us, if travelling with youngish kids, Singapore will win hands down over Malaysian.

No doubt others on this forum will disagree, but this is my/our opinion!

did you have bulkhead seats with the children? were they also roomy? we have booked these seats for Nov with 20mth old toddler in tow.

no we had 4 full seats. One further problem we had was that the plane from LHR to KL had seats in fours - fine for 4 of us. From KL to Melbourne we were on one that had seats in 3's - not very helpful (can't remember the actual plane types but no doubt someone can advise!) for a family of 4. The bulkhead seats (if they are the ones with the cot facility) actually have less legroom than normal becasue the bulkhead prevents you from stretchin out whereas a normal seat you can obvioulsy stretch out under the seat in front.
Can't believe you have the proper bulkhead iseat i.e. by the escape hatches as they don't allow kids in the emergency exit aisles.

Whischever way you do it, there is a fair chance you will have a cr*p journey but it is only temporary and worth it when you arrice! We however will not fly with Malaysia again, but it is personal and no doubt when we do a return trip again with another carrier we wil have a bad one!

Those seats where cots are , are also known as bulkhead. I did think there was a chance leg room would be less, oh bugger. still 10nights in KL & Langkawi should help us get over the long flight.
cheers.

the leg room might be a bit less but the actual space you have is better as you have no one reclining into your lap. Essential for when kids drop things on the floor!

ahh true.
this one is quite a wriggler and hates being restrained, so could be a very interesting flight... she'll be 20mths old then.

We flew with malaysia end of August. We're on a 457 visa and had no problems with the baggage, we were an extra 10kg over the limit. Very helpful at check-in. The flight was longer than expected due to re-routing leaving only 20 mins to catch the connecting flight to Perth. Service on board was not a patch on BA, we travelled with 2 kids under 5, they recieved no goodie bags and were virtually ignored throughout both legs. Also food was not brilliant, you get a choice of 3 options just before thay serve, and you have to take whats left if your at the end. All they seemed to offer for refreshments was water & orange juice. Had to keep asking for tea or coffee. The extra 2" wasn't that noticable and I found the seats in economy uncomfortable. We certainly would't fly with them again, unless we're just unlucky.

You generally have to ask for drinks on all far eastern airlines.....they don't bring a trolley round. They will also serve all the Alcohol and other soft drinks you want if you ask for it.

Also need to remember that the actual seats are narrower in the bulkhead seats than normal as the trays and TVs are concealed in the much wider arm rests. I am reasonably large (although not as large now as I was at Easter ) and had bruised thighs when I got to Adelaide.

Flew with them twice to Oz from UK & Cape Town and thoroughly enjoyed both times. Had to put up with Shitty american flights since so nothing has come anywhere close! Take advantage of the reasonably priced hourly hotel room in KL, it's good to get a shower and stretch out. My hubby is also 6f 4 and built like the proverbial brick poop house and even he was not too cramped.
