I have been posting on this site since Sept 2001 - sad sod, but still not reached 1000 posts.

I came on the site as I needed help, I stay because I like the people I meet on here, I also try to help where I can, I try not to be controversial because it does not suit me.

I find life here very difficult, it is harder than it was for us in the UK, we came for adventure, we are staying because of the ages of our children and the changes we have made in our lives - not because we think it is wonderful, same shit different country! We have no real regrets because it is not worth starting the day with them. We are going to enjoy what we have - we are not trapped we could go back to the UK (we would have less to start again in the Uk than we had and less in some ways than we have now -because of the cost differences, but that is not why).

I understand why the stats show 50% of immigrants move on/back. I also understand why people move back/come back/move back etc.

I hope to offer practical advice here based on my own opinion and experience only of course. My one main piece of advice would be I had a strong marriage before we came I have a stonger one now (luck not judgement) - do not emmigrate to hope things will be better with a iffy relationship.......the pressure could kill what could be saved where you are.

So looking back at my posts - I see the ups and downs (mostly downs) but I am still here, till we make the next move...2/4/6/8 years!

Cheers

Sometimes these threads seem a bit pointless.

No matter how much you have looked into Oz, you wont know if its gonna work till you've sucked it to see! You've gotta have your own mind!

The people that argue back and forth about how wonderful or crap things are,are really just doing it to justify their own decisions. Fine, tell someone about your experiences, but make sure you stress they are yours!

Everyone should check out the things you refer to (weather - banks) its pretty obvious stuff. if you get there and use these things as an excuse to come back, then its your own daft fault!

(soz - just a bit that way out today!)
