This thread is right off the ralls now so its kind of pointless to respond to this but I just wanted to add a few random things just in case.
Just a little asside here Im assuming you have never been to New York City right? Any countries outside of Australia for that matter? Sydney Is Safe TRUST ME!!
Yes things happen as they do everywhere else. But having stayed in Kings Cross for over a month and travelling around Sydney statistics can say what they want but I would gladely walk around there at night than dozens of NYC ghettos. Everybody will have there own experience but a single number is quiet decieving and far from the truth a lot of cases when on the ground.
Another little fact NYC averaged about 500 murders the last few years. At 16 million people that is double the number of murders in the entire country of Aus at 20 million.
Again this is far from "cool" but it may be helpful to have your facts straight and beyond the numbers a broader perspective will have you feeling differently about the crime in Sydney and any city in Australia for that matter.

I'm not trying to say that Sydney has nothing but crime but there has been ratings in the past to say crime stats are higher in Sydney than New York.
New York may sound like it has lot's of crime and it does because of it's population but NY has been rates as one of the safest cities in the world, it is however behind Melbourne, Sydney need more Police, that's where there going wrong, Sydney have too much corrupt Government and Police services.
To bring NSW back to safe hands, they need to hire an extra 4.000 more Police in the Sydney area, but they can't do that because the NSW Government is in debt and they need to cut funding, but the thing is, the NSW Government is in so much debt because they spend so much money on promotion, i had a look under freedom of information and they spend more than $6 billion per year on promotion.

Maybe you didn't understand what i said, i said NY is safer than Sydney, a person in NY is less likely to be attacked as the number of Police, Sydney has a lack of Police of around 4.000.
And yes i have been to NY, many times.
And for safety, Sydney is not a safe city, i've been there many times as well, there are too many homeless people, i had to jump in when a homeless person went to attack someone a few months ago.
Sydney say they have a good harbour but yet they have homeless people sleeper along the water line, that's no joke, homeless people living on the side, and at Central Station there is a homeless woman that talks to her self and i've seen her attack people, every time i go to Sydney, she is always at Central Station.
And at the front of the station, there are more homeless people camping out in the little park.
Sydney maybe safe compered to the Middle East but i can tell you, ratings for a city to be safe has nothing to do with how many people they have, more people can die in one city but that's because of a population fact.
Just trying to workout how to put this so you understand what i mean.
Melbourne has a lot more Police, everytime i go to the railway station(s) in the city there are always Police, Flinders Street and Southern Cross Stations always have Police, there now talking about placing 2 Police Protective Service Officers at every station in Victoria, and not long ago, the Vic Gov stated they'll employ an extra 1996 more Police which is the largest one time boost to Police Numbers in Australian History.
Do you know something, Tasmania even has more Police than NSW and TAS only has around 600.000 people.

I think you were understood, and also shown that your comparison of New York (which suburb by the way) to Sydney on safety is nonsensical. By what you are a saying I can see that your many times in New York did not amount to much. More police there also means they are there to deal with more crimes being committed.
And if you want a city with no homeless people, I encourage you to take a trip to the lovely Norilsk in February - they say they get 50 degrees centigrade below zero and snowfall up to here, so all the bums move to the Sydney harbour to start a crime spree!

Now, Melbourne has no homeless people in the city, that's because the Government makes major investments to get em off the streets.
I remember when so many homeless people walked up to me asking for money, so many begging homeless people, it was really annoying, that's how corrupt the NSW Government is!

Wow is all I can say. I really thought there was some reasoning involved with you. But after reading your last few comments about homeless people im beginning to think there is no hope here. Like the previous poster said there is homelessness in every major, minor city and for that matter town on earth. In Toronto where I live there is homeless everywhere, that doesnt mean its a bad city or that crime is out of control.
Im desperately trying to leave it at that comment but finding it hard to resist saying anything more. I think argueing about the dangers of one city to another is kind of pointless as a whole.
Bottom line though man is Sydney is a safe city, a great city and your overrated comments are uterly pointless is all. Go do a tour through Flatbush, Brooklyn. Detroit and countless other cities and your whole perspective will change for the better my friend.

NY is safer because of the number of Police per person per km.
Now, Melbourne doesn't have homeless people, there would be 1 out of 200, i head around Australia and around the world.
Also, have you even been to Sydney, i go there as part of my job with the AFP, officers get attacked there all the time, Government debt is so high and the NSW Government is so corrupt, anyone from Sydney would tell you that, if they don't, Google it!
That's the thing about Sydney, for the past 40 years, the NSW Government has been spending more than $6 billion per year on promoting there city, while Melbourne spends it's money on transport, health and education.
The thing about Sydney is that, it has bad health, education, transport and law and order is out of control! there trains don't even have air con while most don't even have CCTV!

What on earth has that got to do with the question I asked?
Are you a ten year old, playing on mummies laptop, or have you forgotten to take your medication?
Your ramblings about who and what you are, are so infantile that everybody is laughing at you. Do you not see that?

And yet, Melbourne isn't growing so fast because it's cheap, in fact, rates are rising in Melbourne more than any other city, and TAS, WA, SA, and QLD are cheaper than Melbourne.
Melbourne has a better style of living, while, Melbourne has world class health (One of the most advanced health care systems in the world), plus the best education system anyway in Australia and the world's largest tram network is in Melbourne, and the University of Melbourne is the second best in Australia after the National University.
And again, most sydney suburbs don't even have foot paths, i've noticed many suburbs without foot paths, like Wentworthville, Merrylands, North Ride, etc
On the Sydney harbour, it's alright, once you go in to the city, you could get run over, people can't drive and when you go out of the suburbs, it's really bad! it's like a 3rd world city.
And, Melbourne has the tallest buildings in Australia including the tallest at 95 levels plus the largest office building which is ANZ's HQ in Melbourne (Victoria Harbour).
And, the Icehouse in Melbourne is the largest ice sports centre in Australia and the Australian Olympic HQ.
And, Melbourne has the largest shopping centre at 550 shops with more expansions coming.

The reason why sydneysiders hate Melbourne is because Melbourne was elected the Australian Capital in 1901, Sydney lost big time on that.
Melbourne was meant to be the capital forever, they even stated that but it was transferred to Canberra because Sydney was complaining, there has been plans to transfer it back to Melbourne however to cut operating cost on having some officers between locations.
Sydney has never been capital of Australia and never will be, nor NSW.
