Please vote for the type of TV you like the best, and if you can give a reason why, it would be greatly appreciated :)

I'm thinking of giving up the TV and just watch my laptop :D For a month I didn't have Sky and life was so much fuller for it! I think you need to be aware of how much time you spend watching it! Bye Mark |

Re: LCD or Plasma?
Do LCD TV's only go up to 94cm/37inch?
Has anyone seen any bigger ones? |

Re: LCD or Plasma?
We are still deliberating over which one to get. Salesmen seem to be split 50/50 when you ask them their advice which is of no help really. Would like to know peoples reasons why they bought a particular one.

LCD needs a new bulb in the back (SMALL DIY BUCKS) when it packs up . The picture is much the same on both . |
Re: LCD or Plasma?
True LG are bringing out Holgraphic TV in 2010, they have also developed a new tv which is organic, it was on the gadget show today.
To be best the best way to get a decent opinion is to buy a buyers guide magazine, like which TV or something. Half of these salesmen don't know their arse from their face and only wantto sell you something, product knowledge is always poor unless you go to a specialist outfit. Buy and book for a fiver and save yourself a lot of agro and be sure to get a decent set with a good write up....Money well spent. |
Re: LCD or Plasma?
Why didn't you add rear projection ? If you look at sites that are right into this kind of thing. They will put Rear projection tv's in alongside and sometimes slightly in front still of these technologies.
IE: Rear Projection DLP 52 Inch HD (1368 x 2064 pixels) 100 Mhz = Samsung preferably as LG breaks down more often = 2,600 Aud Plasma "HIGH DEF" do not get the confused with Standard Defnition cheapies same specs at the Rear projection well over AUD, 7,500 for the same picture quality and specs LCD's 50 inches would be around 11,000 Aud, sure you can get 32 inch for less than 2000 now, but the refresh rate on them is woeful. IE; you get little shadows/ghosts when watching fast action like a ball moving in a soccerr game. Talk to someone about the Technical specs of a "DLP" rear Projection tv v the other two first. Sure they have a much bigger footprint, but the picture quality for price is far far better. |
Re: LCD or Plasma?
Defo go for LCD......Plasmas burn out after a while....and r very expensive to fix....have u ever felt the heat that comes off them its ridiculous

Plasma TV's suffer from a burning effect here an image is permently burned onto the tv image , for instance if you always watch a channel where it has symbol inthe corner, like lifestyle, Bravo etc it will eventaully permantly burn that image onto the TV making it irremovable. Plasma is old technology as is rear projection, the reason I state this is rear projection picture quality is poor in comparision and this is demonstratable by the low price of rear projection TV's in comparision to LCD. It speaks for itself in that you "Get what you pay for" |

Well Im a ludite and Ill stick with good ole CRT screens. You still get a better piccie with them and theyre 1/5 of the price! Ma & Pa in Laws bought an LCD a few months ago and I really wasnt inpressed. DONT get one if you like fast action TV like SPORT esp footie and motorsport as you get a lot of blurring of the background that LCD especially cant deal with very well. LCD is the future ,Plasmas wont be around for long as they have shorter lifes and are far more fragile. Get yourself a nice big sony widescreen and save yourself some dosh, thats what I say. :o |

Ever got up close to an lcd or plasma screen?.they look bleedin awful, all you're paying for at the mo' is aesthetics!
Also, try getting a salesman to demo a piece of fast action TV...it wont happen if they can help it. Theyll play you a clip form a Movie that wont have fast panning shots or fast action. Also that will bypass the broadcast limitations of todays signals... |

Re: LCD or Plasma?
I went through the same queries when I landed in March and ended up with a HD 50 inch pioneer plasma. Thought the rear projection picture quality was inferior to the other two. The LCD's didnt really go up to the screen size I was after so that left the plasma. If the LCD's did go up to 50 inch and the price was similar I would have probably gone LCD.
But I am very happy with the plasma at the moment it was also helped by the free install and a 5 year warranty.
