Kangaroos in Perth!!!
#16
Off subject slightly, different animal, my boss reckons there are possums in Perth, I've never seen one although I guess they are nocturnal. Does anyone know, are there possums around Perth? Anyone seen any?

My eldest keeps asking me about kangaroos in Perth/WA. When we 've travelled to Australia before we've seen them in most places but we've yet to go to Perth.
Can someone please tell me if there are kangaroos in the Perth region and how far I'd have to take my daughter out of the city to see one?!
Do they inhabit desert areas as well as grass areas?

Anyway it got better as we had a round of golf at the Vines ( Swan Valley ) and there were Kangaroos everywhere - nice hopping type and healthy looking ones - so healthy one kangaroo kicked my golf ball out of his way!
so there you have it ! And have heard there are loads in Joondalup - even in the University Campus.
While on subject on Kangaroos does anyone know why kangaroos do not poo on the green of golf course? there was poo everywhere on the course but nothing on green - Maybe they put somehting on the grass - anyone know?
Just curious!

Bloody shit loads of the buggers.... go up and have a look in your roof as there is a damn good chance one could be up there. Probably more in the older suburbs and where trees are hanging near houses, but alot of the councils have friendly traps to catch them in your roof then the ranger will come and get it and take away to a safe place for it.

Yanchep National Park has loads sitting on the green outside the Inn, and my other half has seen quite a few 'at it' on the golf course up there. He said that as soon as the golfers got close up the kangaroos hopped off almost as if they were embarrassed to be caught! My friend in the UK was trying to persuade him to go up there and take photos for her!!!

Can anyone beat this then - we have kangaroos in our garden! Well ok we do live on 5 acres, and I've yet to get close to one, but they sure leave plenty of evidence lying around - wish the dogs would stop eating it though yuk
One of these warm nights, I really ought to sit outside in the hammock with my video camera ready to catch them on film, but the thought of what else could be out there kinda puts me off a bit! I always drive a little slower at dusk because chances are there will be some out on our road.
If those of you with kids want to get up real close to friendly kangaroos and even hand-feed them, you can't beat Marapana Wildlife Park, just on the edge of Mandurah. It's a lovely place with really friendly people, and you just wander around at your leisure amongst the animals, little children would be in heaven. You can stroke the koalas too and the keepers give talks during the day on different topics. Well worth a visit. The Armadale Reptile Centre that someone else mentioned is also good too, but the kangaroos are in an enclosure. It's worth going along just to see what these dangerous snakes really look like, in case you ever step on one and need to tell the hospital what type it was!
There's so much development going on around Mandurah, a lot of kangaroos are losing their natural habitats. They can pop up in all sorts of places, probably lost and wondering how the heck that road came to be there, it wasn't there 6 months ago
I was walking to school to pick the kids up one day and this huge kangaroo came bounding along the middle of the road, and hopped across the school playing field.
