...my company (IT services) is the same. Lots of open positions, mostly in Melbourne & Adelaide but also Brisbane & Sydney. Very difficult to find the people.

It doesn't look good for public service job hunters in Canberra right now

Job situation here is woeful. I'm not full of woe yet though I probably should be. Something will turn up. I just think Cairns employers just aren't ready for my mighty brain yet

What kind of job are you looking for? Just today I was doing interviews and spoke to a brit, and aussie and a guy just arrived from singapore. We actually offered the job to the singapore guy (the brit was our number 2 choice) so I have to say your experience doesnt stack up to mine.

(and yes I know the figures dont add up, but thats cos some jobs have the option to be based out of a couple of different locations so appear in both locations which is why it looks like there are more than 181 jobs).

This seems to be the tale through the media too but I can't find a job for love nor money !! I've been looking for two months now with previous experience in retail and admin .. there are jobs out there, which I apply for, but, if I get a response at all, it's 'we were inundated with very high calibre aplicants and unfortunately you were not successful'

Hubby is also a tradie with barely any work too

Retail isnt very good atm cause people are becoming more and more conservative with their finances they choose to save more or pay off more of their debts loans mortgages etc than spend their money on goods and services.
