That looks about right. Whenever my company needs to hire new staff it is a real pain to get a decent candidate. Despite advertising clearly what our requirements are we still get inundated by applicants who have no experience, no qualifications or no idea. Invariably when we give someone a chance they turn up late, spend all day avoiding responsibility and leave within 3 months. Apparently trying to make staff accountable is a form of bullying these days.:blink:

We like to give young 'uns a chance, but some of them need to put their arses in gear and do a good days work. There are plenty of jobs around for those who are prepared to work hard. What happened to old fashioned work ethics ?

It's good to see there are work opportunities out there, even if you have to look outside the box to find one.

Lots of jobs in Australia are short or fixed term contracts (3 months or more) therefore job stability and sustainability is a big problem.

a couple of years back, when I was browsing seek regularly, I found that many jobs are advertised multiple times through different recruiters. There were "junk" adverts as well, so called CV farming - you know one when you see it, much to broad experience requirements with too ambiguous job responsibilities. So these numbers may be inflated.

Although the overall trend seems on the up, especially if you think in terms of the population growth - the economically active population did not double in the past ten years as the number of jobs did. Which should mean abundance of vacancies all over - but *where* are they, really?

I work for a large software house in Brisbane with approx 700 staff worldwide. Just checked and we have almost 150 current Australian vacancies now...all real jobs in a good company. Just as one example.

Finding it harder to fill with decent applicants.

I just went for an informal off the cuff interview, i blagged the interview via cheaky email lol.
iI have more than enough experience and quals to piss the job, but i just had this feeling no matter what i said or did, the job was aussie bound regardless?

Jobs, jobs, jobs everywhere..... but not a single one for me anywhere. Thanks for the stats though..... as they say, stats are like bikinis... what they reveal is fascinating but what they conceal is vital.
