iPhone direct from Apple
Anyone know what Apple are charging for unlocked iPhones at the Apple stores? My contract's up in a couple of months and I'm buggered if I'm signing on for another couple of years just so I can end up with an out-of-date phone that I paid twice as much for as I need to. So, anyone know they cost?
And no, I couldn't give a shit if you think an N97 or whatever is better, save your mobile phone willy-waving for another thread. |

Why not jailbreak it for free? Jailbreak, then get the SIMunlock app.
Job done and I believe you can restore back to non jailbroken firmware via Itunes if required. OK, not on official route, but it works. As an aside what is the preferred network that Au iPhones run on as I'm thinking of bringing a jailbroken UK phone over! |

"iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS purchased at the Apple Online Store can be activated with any wireless carrier. Simply insert the SIM from your current phone into iPhone 3G and connect to iTunes 8.2 to complete activation." AU$879 16G, AU$1040 32G, AU$719 16G So just buy it online and you don't get roped into some soul sucking hopeless contract charging outrageously for the phone as well as your contract for 4,587 years and your first born. |

Just checked Vodafone and on their basic $59 a month package (which gives you bugger all data allowance) you end up paying $1600 for one. They're also doing it for $929 pre-paid. On Telstra you're looking at $350 up front (for the basic 16GB 3GS) and then $949 over 24 months on the virtually useless $30 plan.

Had a quick look at virgin. They are doing a special on the iphone 3g (not the S) - $49 a month for 24 months - $150 value & 300MB data!
My hubby has an iphone contract with them - he is $74 a month - $520 & 1GB - he is yet to use more than 7% of his data allowance, and he is never off the damn thing! |

My advice is don't get one, mine lasted 7 weeks and then konked out due to water damage.... well it did rain..:frown: Now stuck with 24 months contract and no phone....

Although the Vodafone network is not the best, not point having a nice Iphone if you can't use it :)
