Will bare that in mind. With a four year old we would prefer something quieter and more family orientated. Thanks for that. Sounds like a place to visit on a night out then, than a place to live.
But don't discount Glenelg's neighbouring suburbs, Glenelg east, Glengowrie and Somerton Park. All excellent locations, close to the hustle and bustle but tucked away enough, not to experience the negatives.
We have 3 children and live in Glengowrie and love it.

I lived in/around Adelaide for 31 years ...Elizabeth, Salisbury, Seaford Rise, Moana and Willunga...and I loved every moment of those 31 years . Sincerely hope you settle well and all the best for the future

Thanks for the kind words. We feel a mixture of emotions at the mo. Excitement at the prospect of a new life, coupled with fear of the unknown. To hear people talk about Adelaide as a nice place to live and bring up kids helps alot. Obviously we know its down to personal opinions but still puts us at ease somewhat.
