Now by the time I realised this I couldn't get a place for my kids. Had I have just put the kids applications in when I moved out to WA I would have had the option. It often doesn't cost anything or sometimes just $50. Some schools will even allow you to put in applications from overseas.

I hope this helps someone out there.

Kind Regards. All the best for your future.

We didn't even consider private when we first moved here. Now our circumstances changed on a couple of different levels--1) we're moving to an area where the local public PS is massively overcrowded and 2) it's now in our budget to consider going private. We were fortunate to get the last place in our daughter's year at the local private school for this Feb. (we were on the waiting list). The head told me that the intake for Kindy this past year was all siblings of students already attending...so yeah, if anyone's considering private, it's best to get those applications in early.

Which is what, one minute they are in a state primary which is ok and then in a state secondary which is to be avoided at all costs! Same kids surely

I said that in my area that private primary was pointless but private high school was a must. In some areas state high schools are good. Each area must be judged on its own merit. My state primary is far better than most of the private primary schools around my area. The local state high school however is to be avoided at all costs. You clearly didn't read my original post

Poor old State School has to take said naughty boy and does not stand a chance as due to the PC brigade he is untouchable.

We experienced this first hand, caught us out somewhat as we had no way of seeing it coming.
It doesn't always apply that state schools will accept bad behaviour. I know of a state primary school where a child was expelled. The individual then went to a private primary school and is now in a private high school - this might be a rare circumstance, but it can happen.

Nothing is black and white and maybe this individual has modified it's behaviour somewhat. He or she must be getting some sort of support for the parents to be bothered to go to the cost and effort of private education.

It would be very naive to think there were no unpleasant characters floating around private schools.

Unfortunately we couldnt afford private schools (if we could've we would definately have sent them to private,).

Anyway for those who cant afford it, choose your suburb carefully (our suburb choice was based on the public schools), both my girls are doing well, our eldest now at uni, and the youngest did well in primary and starting secondary school after the hols

Unfortunately for us we would have needed to move closer to Perth to get better schools or pay private (if we could have got them in). I would not have been happy leaving my kids where they were and would have been moving them. (This being said my DS had the most wonderful teacher for Kindy and I don't think I will see one better in the UK or WA) I think one of the biggest problems our old school faced was the speed at which the school grew.)

Good luck everyone...
