Sorry, I didn't mean the amount of planning outside of the school day, because that is pretty much the same as the UK, I meant just the actual process of registering as a teacher in Oz. First with Queensland Teaching Council, then with Queensland Government for your ID Number, then with Tracer and all the Education District Offices to put your name down for relief or contracts. Then once you've done your 20 continuous or 40 days of relief ... then you have to go for an 'interview' with a panel so they can give you a rating THEN you get to apply for permanent jobs. All of which takes a good month or SIX! Oh how I wish jobs were just advertised in the local paper, dare I say it, like in the UK

That aside though you could teach in an independent school.

Anyway don't listen to me, I'm bitter about how long everything takes over here at the moment .... erm can you tell?

Good luck with it though, it sounds like she might be warming to the idea, slowly!

I'm 33 she is 30 and we have a 2 year old daughter, we live on the Isle of Wight and compared to most have a reasonable way of life but I feel this would vastly improve if we lived in aus. Dont get me wrong, our financial situation would roughly be the same although our house would be much better along with the climate and outdoor living in general.

Any advice regarding your experiences to gently persuade her ??

Only other option is to tie her up, gag her and pop her into the suitcase !!!
(I need her to get in as she is a teacher !!)

thanks in advance
Don’t do it buddie!

Much talk on here of “if we don’t like it we’ll just go home”.

But this emigrating malarkey opens up a whole can of worms! You would also be surprised at how hard it is sometimes to get the ‘old life’ back ie: how many jobs are about on the Isle of Wight for what you guys do? Would you be happy living back on the ‘mainland’ if Oz didn’t work out?

I would put the money it will cost you to emigrate (and it ain’t cheap) into having an extra holiday each year for the next 10 years. Get your sun fix that way mate.

Good luck on what ever you decide.
