But we love Bunbury, settled and happy here, but love our trips to Perth.
I have never felt Isolated, I do feel a long long way from home, but I would feel that anywhere in Oz.
Tis is home now, forever I hope.

hey just a quick query
why is Canberra never defended in these posts? or even mentioned is it a ghost town or is it just that it doesn't appeal to migrants?

To OP
We love it here we live South of Mandurah in Port Bouvard and although it would not be everyones cup of tea it is a beautiful area with fantastic beaches, canals, the estuary, loads of open space, plenty of wildlife, and a warm and friendly community, heaps of sporting and recreational clubs, great restaurants, the Margaret River wine region is only an hour or so away and my boys go to a fantastic school which is a three minute down the hill.
As far as being over run with Brits is concerned I don't have any British neighbours, my children don't have any British friends (at school), my husband doesn't work with any Brits (oil industry) and I know of only one brit at work (private high school). However, I am proud to say that we have some great British mates whom I consider to be close friends as well as some close Ozzie, Kiwi and South African friends.
In my previous life as a singer/actress I worked and lived in dozens of countries worldwide and I can honestly say for me this place is the best, I feel lucky to be able to bring my children up here. I personally found the Gold Coast to be a bit tacky and full on but some people love it. If you prefer a quieter, slower pace of life and want a nice place to raise your children then maybe Mandurah is for you, if you like a livelier life and envisage yourself regularly traveling interstate then I would say definitely stick to the eastern states. Think about whether you prefer a seasonal climate, more typical of Perth, cool wet winters with dry hot summers or if you prefer a more tropical climate with dry warm winters and high humidity in the summer months. More importantly consider where your best work prospects would be, if you work in oil, gas, mining etc then I would say the west coast is the place to be. The wages being paid in the resources sector are just ridiculous at the moment. I am not saying that money is everything but if you have given up a good standard of living in the Uk most people want to be able to achieve at least that here and lets face it anywhere sucks if you are stone broke. I don't really know what the boom sectors are over east but someone on here should be able to set you straight.
Anyway good luck.

"They"?
Agreed
I'm not defensive, but certainly would consider myself an advocate for Melbourne, I absolutely love the place. To me it doesn't matter about the comparable sizes of Melbourne and Brisbane, it was you that made the point and I was just wondering how it was to be achieved

Not you, people in general, even if they have only lived in the place for a few days
Funny though reading a lot of posts on here, loads people seem to love Perth / Brisbane at first and get bored, not really seen the same in Melbourne, maybe that says something.
