as i said in a post way back a couple of pages - but only one person noticed - was that we were going with very little money (no house sale, only a few £k in savings) and we are a family of 2 adults and 3 little kids.
We have planned for every eventuality, researched the cost of everything we can think of, and sorted out jobs before we go (only god knows when that will be!!!) and shall face any financial obstacle with the same positiveness we have when here in the uk.
No one bails us out if we get stuck for money here in the uk, so no one is going to bail us out in aus... we have faced redundancy/illness/hardship and not had to claim a penny in benefits, so the way i see it, why not go to aus and give it a go!?
And if we dont manage financially, we will come back to the uk.
straight forward, sensible planning ... and you cant go wrong.

Oh, and the little ones absolutely MUST have private schooling dahling!!!!
Dont get me wrong, I don't for a second begrudge you a single penny of the money you've, no doubt, made from a house sale....but what I get annoyed at is how you can possibly think for a second that it might not be enough????
Can you see my point? At all??

I used to want a big house e.t.c and many people clearly see this as "success".
I work in private houses a lot and a lot of them are doing O.K with the X5 on the drive e.t.c (nothing wrong with that). Everything they do is measured in monetary value and many work long hours and don't really see their kids or know them at all.
I live in a small house and my wife does not work. We struggle a little but I am home with my kids every night playing games e.t.c.
Success should be measured by how happy you are and not by how much money you have.
If you are happy here with little you will be happy with little in Oz.
Ignore the many posts against you on here I see your frustrations.

I think some of these posts have been misunderstood. I (along with many others I suspect) completely agree with your first sentence. I haven't read anything here that leads me to believe anyone is showing off, wishing to "do one" better than anyone else or having a "wealth competition".
The posters were simply asking how far their money would go and all the posters seem to be in different circumstances.
It's a pity that what appeared to be an initial innocent request has been misinterpreted or resented.
Unnecessarily in my opinion. (for what it's worth)

Well our Oz funds have just gone up $11,800.
Just sold my car
Just the house and wife's car to go
We will be bringing as many Pacific pesos as we can
When we moved from the UK 3 years ago we tried and tried to bring everything we could, closed savings account, cashed in ISA's, endowments the lot. We even had a house we owned outright and sold that, regret that now.
In the end we brought over 156K did it make us happy......no, we lasted 8 months and went back. We then lasted 10 days in the UK and came back to NZ. We now have about the same as we started with but are very, very happy.
Money does not make it harder or easier its just there (if you know what I mean)

Hello all, have been reading this thread, and to be honest i try not to read these ones as they send me into panic mode, I can see, and i say this with caution, where fluffy is coming from, sometimes it does feel like rubbing salt into the wounds, good on ya all for having lots of dosh, but like fluffy we have worked all our lives (am a nurse , oh a printer and we have always worked full-time , except for the last few years where i have been 30 hrs plus a call, so can average 40hrs), but its just the way our lives have turned out, not through lack of work, i would say just lack of luck
(and that's another story
)
We are moving to mellie shortly and have very limited funds and being the grand old age of 42 with two kids it fills me with fear :scared: , recently our house has went on the market , and i use another forum, i was dead excited coz it went on for more than i expected and posted the amount on the forum, then i felt awful, and remembered there may be people worse off than me, and went back and deleted the amount and used other wording, and i hope on the forum this has been percieved as good manners
