My 4yo Jeep has done over 25,000/yr, but that includes regular cross-country trips (Brisbane-Adelaide, Brisbane-Sydney, Brisbane-Alice Springs, etc) which are a lot less wearing than driving around the city.

Formula 1 engines do around 5,000km/yr and are then totally stuffed. Trucks do 100,000/yr and keep that up for decades.
Yeah I agree. Our 2003 Falcon has about 200 000 on the clock and it still feels like a new car to drive. Plus it's built like a tank :sunglasses:

Small engines aren't like small engines of old, they will go for just as long as big engines nowadays. Oddly enough I was talking about this to my wife yesterday, we personally know 3 people including a brother who have sold Falcons and bought Hyundai i30's. When you look on the roads the trend away from big cars is very obvious.

Did they change because the car was high kms or because the smaller car was more economical and easier to drive in town? Anyway, this is irrelevant to the thread topic which relates to used cars!

Just costing too much to own and drive a big car they didn't need.

Regardless of the age of the engine, a motor that cruises at 2,500-3,000 rpm will never last as long as an engine which cruises at 1,500-1,800 rpm.
