Still, minor hassle in the grand scheme. Provided we don't kill each other! Worst thing is, because we're travelling for the best part of four weeks to get to Sydney, we have to take everything we need for the journey etc with us to and from the pub/in-laws. Bit of a logistical nightmare, as we won't have our car by the end, either.

Anyway, you're getting there! Keep at it and don't let their guilt trip attempts get to you. Stay chilled with a

Cazzamack - we land in Sydney on Mar 13 (or is it Mar14? I forget ...).

Where abouts in Sydney will you be? We are hoping to rent in East Hills as John will be working in Milperra (about 10 mins drive apart) and we have found excellent schools for the boys in East Hills (recommendations from friends of friends of friends etc etc)

Have managed to find 2 estate agents willing to take us on as tennants so far, still bombarding the others with emails!!

I also think that some of the scariest stuff is still to come like tax numbers, bank accounts, medicare, renting a house, buying a car and getting your whole life re-organised in about a week!! (things you have done over a period of years here).

We're, erm, not sure! Not got as far as where we're going or what we're going to do. That looks sooooooooo disorganised of us when written down like that ... Mr GG and I are from the 'it'll be fine' school of emigrating. (Having got used to the idea now - there was a period of sheer terror accompanied by daily bouts of vomiting, but that seems to have passed happily. )

We're more concerned with getting work then where we'll be based; so I think that will determine where we ultimately end up. There's only me and 'im indoors, so we plan to live in a hostel in Sydney for two weeks while we wait for our container to arrive. We'll use that time to find somewhere to rent. And we'll also be using our week in Fiji sat in an internet cafe, looking into places and making contacts. If that all fails, storage is cheap for the stuff and we'll find another hostel!

We have been very fortunate, Johns sponsor has helped us out alot and suggested where to stay at first, (we too are staying in hostel till we rent, me, john, and 2 boys all in 1 room!!!!! We wont be in there for long!!!) As i am attached to John's sponsorship on the visa, i can work anywhere and do anything when we get there, but that will have to wait until after i have settled to boys in and unpacked the furniture........when it finally arrives!!!!!

Please keep in touch, if we can help in any way, please ask.

Hi yes totally normal thats why we have decided not to go my advice do not ignore all that you have said I took off the roses and threw them away and done some good research on what my earnings would be, and the conclusion was that I we would be struggling on the much lower wage.Alot of people have told me how cheap a house is to rent may be buy the pound, I found the average was around $285 a week now in pounds ok cheap now convert it into your meager ozzie wage and bang thats a big % and I for one am not going to convince my self that a bit of sunshine can make up for it.Sorry for the negative post it is just my opinion. Other reasons below

1. Schooling can you afford a good private school?
2. The cost of buying a car
3. Will you have your holiday abroad and not just in Australia
4. family and friends not exactly on the door step are they

this is just a few reasons there are many more Just use your head
God i suppose i am going to get roasting on this post :scared:

Hi Sheety,

I'll not give you a roasting, matey - we're not all two-headed ogres (this particular ogre only has one head! ).

If you've looked into, weighed it up and decided that in your circumstances/situation, emigrating isn't right for you, then fairy snuff. It's an important decision and not one to be taken lightly. Sometimes deciding 'no' can take more courage than deciding 'yes'. I think people would only find it objectionable if you tried to force that decision on everyone else here - which you're clearly not doing.

Research and proper consideration go a long way, and if that's what's helped make up your mind ... that's always great to read, regardless of what the outcome of that is.

Good luck and best wishes for whatever happens next.

While I was applyig for the Visa I was too busy to panic - then I got it on Tuesday and have till sunday to pack, sell my house and car, see everyone one last time..........
Now I'm panicking!!!!!!
(ok maybe I panicked when my med results were lost )

When you have your visa the main difference is that the panic is FUN !!!

Yep - I sit at work and grin some days, just knowing. I'm doing it again now.

How's everything coming on, Cas?
