But it's Howard / Costello policy.

Just a few above that post there's one by someone with a username a lot like yours actually.

I'm fairly sure the first home buyers grant first came out under Keating and was continued by Howard. Could be wrong but i'm stretching my memory here.

Trying to get some continuity with the new user name.

It was introduced in 2000 - well inside the Howard zone.

Welcome back btw!

I remember the first home buyers grant first came out around the 1995 time. It was something like $7,000. It was only for a limited time and Howard re-introduced it in 2000.

Good to be back! This place is a bit like a drug.

Of course some non christians are supporting it but you could argue that about any legislation....I think the broad brush push is coming from religious conservatives including the minister.
And now it seems the PM, a fellow atheist of yours, is pushing for the internet filter.

Well that shouldn't surprise anyone considering Labor's push for the National Broadband (Surveillance) Network and the recording of people's internet usage.

It is Stephen Fielding pushing for the filter. Labour has to do it to keep his vote in the Senate. Fielding is from one of those happy clappy evangelical parties that disguises itself as Family First. In reality it is a Hillsong front which is produces Christian Rock.

No, the Internet Filter has always been much more about controlling what people can and can't look at, in the guise of protecting people from child pornography. Though it was initially suggested by and supported by the religious right as being necessary to prevent people from obtaining pornography, it has morphed into something much more sinister. Initially proposed as an opt-in system, it has transformed into a system of national censorship in the name of the greater good, designed to appease its christian supporters and appeal to 'concerned parents.'

Even though it's been demonstrated that the system they are proposing just doesn't work, won't prevent access to child pornography, will generally slow an already slow network down and will be a huge waste of money, Stephen Conroy is determined to push on with this unpopular legislation. It's very much become his little pet project, and his use of parliamentary privilege to criticise and bully its opponents is an absolute disgrace.

Unfortunately for Gillard, whether she like it or not, Stephen Conroy, the unashamedly religious senator behind the filter, was also one of the Labor so called 'powerbrokers,' instrumental in her rise to power. Even if she wanted to she can't turn around and take his pet project from him.

And combine the internet filter with the National Broadband network, which is govt controlled and will give them the opportunity to snoop/intercept every electronic communication, ISP's recording every website we visit and intergovernmental department data matching and what do you have?

So, a religious ritual in an attempt to rescind a religious ritual then.
