Re: Favorite mail order website from The UK?
For those into bikes - just built this one up - Parts were from Wiggle / Ribble / Chain Reaction / Ebay - the frame was from On-one (main triangle is Columbus steel). All up cost about $1200, all up weight 7.4kg.

I used to live not far from their Preston shop, so went there for stuff in person but never ordered online from them. For Shimano especially, they used to take some beating though on price.

On-One/ Planet-X- another great online bike shop!
I had a Kaffenback from Planet X that was my winter/ off-season "hack", bike. Retro cool, weighed a ton but would probably have survived an atomic war

Blimey- Ribble must have really pulled their fingers out over the last year or so, coz they used to have a shocking reputation in the UK at least with mail order.

Always wanted a Ribble frameset - something about them - next project maybe. Apparently they are made in Italy, even the cheap aluminium ones, which obviously means they will be faster! Without being jingoistic, the nicest bike I ever owned was a Vitus in the 90's. Built it up with Mavic / Sachs gear, everything European. Wish I still had it.

Me too - not far from the shop that is. Always found them a little elitist - that was probably because I was into MTB's at the time. Had great service from them recently, probably the best out of the 4.

Their frame sizing/ geometry is (or was), a little odd though, with longer than normal top tubes. I owned a Ribble 7005 cheap alu winter frame a few years back, but sold it pretty quickly as the geometry was crucifying me! Frame was all out of proportion.
(Yeah, the Vitus 979 Duralinox was ahead of it's time back then! I always wanted one as a schoolboy. Bendy as ****, but light as a feather in the days when Reynold 531 ruled!)

Wallis is currently offering free shipping if you spend over a certain amount, and Monsoon were (for any amount) last week and still may be.

Re: Favorite mail order website from The UK?
My son is looking at buying a new bicycle from his recent earnings so becoming aware of this site is very well timed.
I've just taken a look at this one which is typical of the one he'll go for:
http://www.wiggle.co.uk/giant-seek-2-2011/
£357 at Wiggle (with "40% off")
Giant's RRP in in Aus is $949 but some cheeky git retailers over here are selling it for $1099

I see Wiggle has quite a few Raleigh bikes too. Several years ago you couldn't beat Raleigh so we bought one the year before last. Turns out it was a heap of rubbish so wont go near that brand again.
