You can also mistake snobbery, upbringing and class systems for these attributes, but it doesnt mean they are introvert or extrovert just more brash and course.

We are stepping into the realms of stereotypes now, and we all know they are false most of the time.
I agree, but the airline examples I quoted were based on a real effort to identify different safety cultures. The Aussies they surveyed really did just respond immediately to their superiors. If they are extroverted by nature they would be comfy there. If they were introverted they wouldfind it easier to respond in an extroverted way. The opposite was true in the surveys of Singaporean safety culture. An introvert would be more comfortable there, but I'd rather an airline was operated by extroverts. I'd rather my car was built by introverts.

there is also a state of mind when you believe in yourself and other people come what may, this is arrived at when you know yourself and other people's weaknesses well, which you get to by experience, training, testing yourself in a multitude of environments eg like migration!!. I call it strength of character which both seemingly extroverts and introverts have. eg you get party animals who seem outwards but are nothing on the inside and introverts who need a rocket up their asses.

sounds corny but some people can go through their whole lives without ever knowing what they are good at (or not good at)

I actaully hate being the centre of attention, but don't mind getting stuck in if you know what i mean.

Unfortunately my raw nerve and energy get me noticed more than I realise. when push comes to shove i know what i can do so nothing really touches me and i couldn't care - hard to explain??

no, really I am.......
I find it very hard to make friends...........I find it difficult to talk to people face to face I dont know.......altho at work I am fairly confident and have no problems talking to anyone. (must be the uniform)
I have only a couple of friends who are very close to me and I have know them for many years.
Stems from years as an ugly duckling(wore very thick glasses as a child), being bullied and ZERO self confidence - this kind of childhood makes you feel very inferior to others...dunno why.
Now Im fairly confident and dont feel that overwhelming sense of embarrassment if I have to speak to anyone, but find it hard!

What an absolutely fascinating thread!!

And really nice to know that there are people out there who feel a bit screwed up in their heads too.

Pollster - the most introverted extrovert I know!
