Can't help you with some of your query but with regards to the wheelchair assistance, you can request wheelchair assistance and they will also pre-board her meaning she will board before all other passengers, so will be able to get comfortable etc before the mad rush. They usually disembark first or last depending on the arrival airport. Some airlines will ask for a medical certificate to request seats, not all do and I'm not sure about Emirates, you really need to speak to them.
You could also request an aisle seat near to the toilet if that would help her due to her medical condition, but with regards to her dementia, does she have someone accompanying her, or how bad is it?
Hope this is of some help

i did wonder about seat request, for her bladder problem.
Although with the wheelchair assistance she maybe near a toilet.
She is starting to show early signs dementia .but is in total denial.so a very hard subject i can only hope the 2 months she is here for will help her and make her smile again..

We had to prepay to get aisle seats near loos for my mainlaw with parkinsons. She got a wheelchair which helped greatly with immigration, plane changes, suitcases etc
Interestingly the Oz end was far more helpful than the uk end.

Yes, she will have to leave the aircraft if they are refuelling.

No. Emirates do not strictly enforce it. I was on one of their Dubai to Sydney flights that land to refuel in Bangkok. Attendants said that those who want to stretch their legs or go for a quick ciggie could do so, and gave us plastic numbered cards in lieu of boarding passes, then we exited with the crowd that went to Bangkok, but there was a way for us right into the waiting area in front of the gate. There was a metal detector I remember that, but no papers etc. were necessary, and, we were back on a plane in 15-20 minutes or something like that. Lots of people stayed on board though.

rackcatt, - The pax don't have to go through passport control though, so she would just be escorted off the plane for a short time then back on again. The only security is just to get back into the gate and reboard the plane.

We got my Mother-in-law and her eldest daughter over last year and they got up-graded to business class.
Thinking they had a good sleep on the way lying flat, I asked them what was it like lying down to sleep on an aircraft? the reply..... "Oh no, where too scared to put the seat back in case we got stuck!!!"........ aagggh, we dream of getting an up grade and it gets wasted like that!! lol

Does partly depend on airport regulations though - I know at one time Singapore insisted on everyone disembarking, they may have changed that now, though Qantas have airline rules which insist on everyone leaving the aircraft.

Most Airlines allow refuelling when the Airport FD is present (which of course costs a bit...why it's often cheaper to get rid of those nasty passengers

I would cut her hand off for her to get an upgrade..im like a rabbit on headlights at moment !!!
Im soooo stressed about her travelling, she really doesn't have a clue...short term memory is awful..booked her ticket for 2 months ..next day she arguing wae me .. that it was a month i said she was coming for !!!
Silly short term memory loss..but i am so scared she walks off plane at dubai and follows rest passengers..ending up clueless as to where to go...
Emirates said she can remind the cabin crew that she has a wheelchair assisitance..eh hello..i need to remind her !!!
would pay someone on flight to look after her if i could !! lol
