Thanks for your kind words Jo (and others too), although Glenn has asked me to say that he's not ex-Department of Immigration (he wasn't too offended!), but is in fact the former head of Trades Recognition Australia.

Best regards.

Yeah, We initially did an on-line test with Go Matilda (been recommended) and were going skilled independant. Steve is a Carpenter. Glenn Newton at Go Matilda is an absolute star. Told us what we had to get together for the TRA and how to go about it. He's ex immigration officer! The Tra was a bit of a trial. 237 bits of paper later, paperwork dating back to 1987 and all having to be signed and certified by a Solicitor but we managed it. While we were waiting for the TRA my brother who lives in Adelaide got his permanent visa so we switched to family sponsored. Now we get extra points and don't have to cough up $100,000AU to the government for two years. So our Visa application went in this week and we're in for the long wait. We chose Go Matilda cos they are in Southampton and close by, also my cousin used them and said they were good. Its been expensive but worth it for the help, I don't think we'd have managed the TRA without them. Steve having been self employed since 87 then running a limited company since 96, we would never have got the paperwork together without help. Hope this helps. Jo

Whatever you do, don't run from. You'll only be disappointed at what you find elsewhere out there. Run to. Find a damn good reason to want to be somewhere else, but don't take your emotional baggage with you about the UK.

You want something completely different, go to rural france. Or Latin America. Or Scandinavia. The English speaking world all carries the stars and stripes stamp. Be warned, find a different dream to chase. So many brits come back from other parts of the world. We know why. You can take an englishman out of england, but you can't...

Please accept my apologies Alan and Glenn. All I can say is my high praise must be worth it if you can lure the head of Trade Recognitions to work for Go Matilda.!!
You can imagine the praise I'll be giving you when (or if) we get our Visas!!!
Jo and steve (the patient one)

Wilf, you are in a class of your own!where do you live for christs sake-the amount of crime in the UK that goes unreported is just incredible, the police are useless, the roads are a mess, violent crime used to make the news ,now it doesn't get a mention.
As for quality of life, you are having a larf arn't you-just because Oz isn't what you hoped it would be don't distort the truth-a sense of perspective is fine but the rubbish you come out with is beginning to iritate!
Some people I know moved to Oz a few years ago,Sydney I believe-they struggled for quite a while to adapt-missed their family and all the usual stuff-but after 5 years and several visits back to old Blighty the comment a few weeks ago was "coming back to England this time has made us realise why we left"-funny enough they are highly educated people but they feel the quality of life in Oz makes up for any draw-backs that Oz may have.
As for your kids coming to England because they are so highly skilled they can't get a job in Oz-perhaps they are just typical youngsters who want to see a bit of the world!
The last word goes to a mate of mine who lives in Brisbane-Port talbot born,Chepstow educated but moved to Oz in 1989,on his own-hes a success story-worked hard and got a great life-ask him about Oz and he says quite simply"WHO WOULD WANT TO LIVE ANYWHERE ELSE"-hes embraced Oz,has become a citizen and even shouts for Australia when they are playing his beloved Wales-perhaps thats the secret-embrace Oz,become an Ozzie!

You are giving 2 examples of people who like Oz. I could give you dozens of people (incl me) who do not. So I win and OZ is no good by your idea of how to settle the issue?

Having lived in Oz nearly all my life, I need no advice from welshmen who reject their homeland and play at being an ozzie. Your friend has the usual narrow view of life and those with more brain and wider interests always get fed up with Oz very quickly. My daughter used to have a little brown mouse and we never got a squeak of complaint out of him about how much he dlsliked Oz but I did not take his opinion as worth anything either.

Someone like your pal is of no interest to me at all and they get no respect from me - what do I have to learn from someone who is afraid to be himself? If you need to become ozzie to live in oz then it is a cult religion or a brainwashing factory rather than a country?

Oz is a very high crime society, sorry to blow your dreams.

So your misery does have company? Not surprised if you have been a frequent "victim".

I was a victim of crime on day one in OZ - I had 10 pounds taken off me under false pretences.

Sometimes you are too clever for me Mega and I do not follow the 2nd half of this one. Only trolly I use is at the supermarket where I also get mugged regularly by a spotty youngster posing as an employee and armed with a radar gun.

You are making me remember just how much crime there is in OZ.

Personally I dont think we can ever give a better gift to our children to have the freedom to live in the best two countries in the world. They will choose later on in life and if my three boys come back to the UK then so be it. Most Ozzys come over here to make a quick buck, learn about the country, maybe find a wife and go back to OZ.
Make GB Aussie Free , buggers come over here take our jobs and drive up home prices , UK or Australia?

Wilf, you do talk crap don't you!My friends are not half wits but I'm beginning to wonder where your brains are-as for insulting the welsh, tred carefully pal-you might be becoming a racist!if thats the case forget the UK,English will soon be the 2nd language and the Mosque will be your place of worship. As for your aggressive tone towards me and your pathetic rant about knowing a few people who don't like Oz,give me some statistics about how many people are trying to leave Oz.then I'll give you a few about the 100,000's who are actively trying to get out of this place!
Simple fact,if you work at it,it will work for you-if you sit there bemoaning your luck and the cards you've been dealt then life will be truly miserable and in your case I think you probably deserve it!

Oh and another thing Wilf-I'm not a dreamer,I've lived in Oz and loved it,the UK has lost its way,Oz may have also but believe me the UK is stuffed,in 10 years time it will be hell over here, now thats why I'm back off down under-that and the fact that I've made a decent life for myself through hard work and a positive attitude-just like all my mates and family down under!
You obviously have so much bitterness in your life that you feel the need to come on here and burst peoples bubbles-even PB can put a bit of perspective on things though his dream move back to glorious Kinver does make me laugh!

Here, here!!

Not all that glitters is gold!

You'll be doing the opposite of what you want. Both my kids were born in Oz and have moved back to the UK for their careers (they are university educated). This is extremely common - all clever ozzie kids leave for job opportuinities, and this will get more and more the case in the future. Work opportunities in Oz are limited, especially if your kids become educated people, and your chances of being a victim of crime are higher in Oz not lower. Hard as it seems to believe, Oz is a worse country for quality of life, future prospects, and crime than the UK once you live here and know the day-to-day reality. You will spend little time with your kids due to long hours, your holiday allowance will be 3 weeks per year, and the low wages, high house prices, little time off, and general feeling of missing out on "life" by being in such a godforsaken place, will make you more stressed, not less.
