If you are not outwardly racist and do not have a bad attitude you will not fit in.

I had terrible trouble with mine and whenever I told anyone about it (and I never mentioned his nationality) would reply by asking "is he Greek/Italian?"

Hi try not to compare things, accept the differences & socialise as much as you can.

As already said, have an open mind.

For everything you see that you don't like, also try to notice one or two things that you like better There will be many differences, some you may like others you may not.

Don't buy meat at the supermarkets, use the Butchers.

Find out where Arkon lived, and do NOT move there, from what I recall he was not very happy there

I second never turn down an invitation you never know who else you will meet.

If you have children get involved in school, never know when you need someone to pick up your children and vice versa.

When invited out its the go to take wine and beer with you also check with barbies if you need to bring meat and food. Probably not when you first meet people but check. Once you have friends its done and some of the best nights are impromtu barbies where we all search for something to add to the meal.

Mix with your neighbours if they are nice. If there are older people in the Street who are home say hi they will keep an eye on your home if you both work during the day.

People may seem like they are in cliques but you know its the same for people who go to UK seems the same to them.

Never feel you are not wanted or liked, if you are invited your in like flyn

Brilliant advice so far. Thank you. Arkon can I asked where you lived? It's maybe a bit personal to ask why it didn't work out but could you give me a hint please?

Can I have the answer to your rhetorical question?

I'm guessing its something to do with horses, or which side soldiers carried their swords. Thats usually the answer.

If you tell me , I'll tell you why the Space shuttle rocket boosters are the size they are.

Typically it's because there's not so much room in towns to widen the road by adding the extra lanes in the middle (which involves swerving the existing lanes out to create enough space in the middle to add the extra lanes). Where you have more space you can create a smother safer swerve (which temporarily becomes wider than needed).

The width of 2 horses' bottoms?

Doubt whether this news will be of use to you, unless you are a gasfitter, but it could be of interest to some. Today in Adelaide, South Australia, the APA group who employ 20 gasfitters in the residential, industrial and commercial sector announced they are closing these departments, making these engineers, plus admin. and management redundant, with 7 weeks left to work. Having experienced, but survived the frustrations and inconsistencies of the licensing circus I would imagine as a new migrant looking to find work in this field, things will be even tougher now, with competition from experienced locals.
