Cost of living soaring rapidly.
Surely I cant be the only one whos noticed this!!
In about the past three months alone.
Rates warned they will rise another 8%
Petrol has gone up about 20c a litre, not good when you drive over 1000 klms a week between you.
Food, this one knocks me over! bread was 99c for the cheapo bland loaf that went up 35 cents in coles 49 cents in woolies. Milk up again about 10c a litre, stuff like yogurt is treated as luxury food $2,49 for two little individual cartons, as a family we could eat 30 a week! easily in lunchboxes alone. Apples quite often $6.00 a kilo if you want anything edible, salad ingredients very expensive here, anyway you get the idea we are now over $1000 a month on food for 2 adults and 2 kids. I still think a country with only 2 major food chains owning the supermarkets despite giving them different names is wrong.
Medical insurance, up $20.00 this month, now $2200 a year and that is DOUBLE what it was when we arrived here 5 years ago, and the benefits you get have been cut again.
Airfares, what happened there? taxes for an overseas trip were about a $100, now its around $300 a trip each.
Thankfully we dont have a mortage, if we did the interest rates went up last month, making australia the third highest rates in the world and are expected to go up again in the next month or two.
Doesnt anyone else notice all this

Consumer Price Index: All Groups, Brisbane and Australia, September qtr 1998 to September qtr 2004
CPI:
1999 Q4 124.1
2004 Q4 148.0
Debasement of the currency:
~ 20% over 5 years.
FutureValue = PresentValue . Rate ^ Time
Rate = 10 ^ (log(FutureValue / PresentValue) / Time)
Rate = 10 ^ (log(148.0 / 124.1) / 5)
Rate = 1.0359 = 3.4% compound.

But... rates can be flexible. eg: St George are quoting 7.32% but you can get 6.82%, and that is NOT a honeymoon rate.

Need interest rates to double to put some spine in the currency, make people scrabble harder for buck$ and less ready to part with 'em.

Taking the high house prices into account and the low wages because employers use the excuse they do not have to pay city rates of pay, I read somewhere that comparitively the sunshine coast was becoming one of the most expensive places to live in Australia
