Changes To Foxtel

So, what do you think of the new front end fr Foxtel IQ? I thought my box had gone on the blink when I turned it on today lol.

The best bit though, it seems that channel 7 is finally coming on board next week....I won't hold my breather mind you ;)

Colour scheme is different, and they've added new functionalilties. You can now continue to watch the channel you're viewing in a small screen whilst also using the planner and TV guide. You can sort the planner too, so you can find all episodes of the same show regardless of when they were recorded. Emmmm, I think you can look at the next few hours of viewing per channel on a whole screen. The Box office stuff has been tidied up a bit too. There's probably more, but that's all I can remember right now.

I think the changes are being rolled out over a period of time! I set it to record a movie today and noticed there's a ne wbutton which allows the user to easily add 20 mins to the recording. Perfect for those pesky Ch9 shows which always start late!!! Maybe now I won't need to record the show after the one I actually want to view as well lol.

Yep mine has changed too, but I never lost 7.

If we had access to Foxtel I might still be paying for satellite. As it is, us poor country cousins are forever screwed by being forced to pay for the piss-poor Austar service. :(

Re: Changes To Foxtel

Mine only changed overnight (Friday), color scheme has changed plus it has this new video view function which allow you to view a small screen of what you currently are watching while being able to browse the menu at the same time.

I always have had channel 7 but don't have any of the new digital free to air channels.

annqldau Nov 6th 2009 9:15 am

Re: Changes To Foxtel

I think that's because the owner of Channel 7 has now bought up most of the Foxtel shares so he's got a vested interest now in getting it on there. But like you I'll believe it when it happens and I see it on the screen in front of me.

The 'On Demand' stuff this week is a load of bollocks including a load of rubbish about the Olympic build up as if we are interested...yawn.

Has anyone in WA noticed any updates? I can't see any.

Would be great to finally receive channel 7 and 9 via satellite. Last year there was a mention of at least one of these coming on to satellite in WA in the first quarter of 2009.

Re: Changes To Foxtel

Not noticed anything in WA either, I know the colours went a bit funny last night for a while apart from that nothing :)

Re: Changes To Foxtel

We have 9 there's only channel 7 missing here, which did say channel 7 would come in the spring here for a while but then they removed it quick and all went quite.

I'm WA and updated my iQ2 about 4 weeks ago - mind you I forced the update as opposed to waiting for it to be sent. My iQ1 is not updated yet - might go and force that now!
Ch7 should be available for metro Perth from 15th. Will wait and see for regional.

How do you force an update?

The box will reset, all the lights will come on and then turn off
They will come on again
As soon as the come on again press power, up, down, power

Re: Changes To Foxtel

There are two updates I'd like to see, all programmes start and finish at the times it states (which I know isn't a specific Foxtel problem but anyway..) and the 'big' channels actually use ****** series link.

Thanks - system is now updated with the new style and functionality.

Your instructions were actually a bit more accurate than the youtube video :)

Fantastic! I'm incredibly impatient and I've been following this thread hoping mine would update soon. I followed your instructions and there it is! Some well earned karma given!

I didn't see the video thing at first and discovered at the bottom of the screen you had to press a coloured button to get the view you want. I've since went into the main Foxtel settings and have changed it to have the video menu as a default. Works pretty good.

I do hope they fix up the series links and put Channel 7 on there soon.

I think i'm right in saying this, Channel 7 has always been available to those who recieve the signal via cable.
Those who have a dish have never been able to receive 7, until now.
I heard the Foxtel ceo on the radio talking about it.

Spot on

November 15th is the day Channel 7 will supposedly start on the Sat Systems.

Now I wonder what happens with the 2nd channels on 9 10 and 7...not heard what Foxtel are going to do with those.

Does the cable connection allow them ?

I've been lead to believe 7 and 10 are not coming through with the people at 9 being particularly stubborn!

Sorry, that should be 9 and 10.

Yep, the cable connection allows all of them. I previously had cable here in Perth and had 7, 9, and 10.

It's apparently more to do with satellite bandwidth issues being the reasons that it is taking so long for these channels to become available via sat. Various states have access to different satellites so bandwidth issues aren't the same across Australia.

I am pretty sure i read somewhere that on Foxtel we will soon be able to see Sky news from the UK in a full screen mode when we press the red button rather than the postage stamp size that currently appears.

It is for me in the south west - I updated my iQ2 about 4 weeks ago, iQ1 last week.

Did you get the "please wait system updating screen"?

Re: Changes To Foxtel

Didn't work for me either :( We get Foxtel through E-wire and don't get channel 7, 9 or 10. Had a letter from Foxtel saying that we won't get the next generation of channels and services until our TDT platfporm has been upgraded (I assume by E-wire)

I must admit I find it funny that any expats have Foxtel at all.

I mean, I'm always hearing about the 'vastly improved outdoor lifestyle' that everyone has in Australia (as opposed to the UK) and yet people are happy to spend their hard-earned cash on something that is apparently entirely superfluous to them now that they have fulfilled their dream to be able to spend 99% of their spare time outside getting a tan by moving to Australia.

Surely some new swim-wear for all those visits to the beach, some new cycling lycra or a lovely surfboard would be more appropriate investments.
;)
