Surely some new swim-wear for all those visits to the beach, some new cycling lycra or a lovely surfboard would be more appropriate investments.
;)

Not all of us came for the vastly improved outdoor lifestyle. Coming from Canada the lack of snow is good enough for me!

Besides... it gets dark very early in Queensland. There isn't much I'd be doing outside in the dark at 7pm and onwards. ;)

Oh but the Aussie climate is so temperate and 'livable' that, even in the dark, one can sit outside with one's mates and drink all the wonderful Australian wines and discuss the fantastic low-cost, high-quality lifestyles everyone has in Australia. And sport.

because we all came here just for the beach.
I drag my 2 year old out each night- winter, spring, summer, autumn - and tell her ' no bed for you, you WILL go out and enjoy the outdoors lifestyle as that is all Australia is about". Strange child seems to want to go to bed rather than let us be out partying every night.

And our Foxtel (Vic) changed to funky colours last night....

I was obviously being flippant.

It's just that people always bang on about the 'outdoors lifestyle' whenever you debate the merits of Australian life with them. When you point out that the TV and Radio in the UK is better than here, they say 'ah yes, but I am always out doing stuff here because it's a more outdoors lifestyle, so the TV and Radio doesn't matter'.

But they still get Foxtel.

Just that people's lifestyles obviously aren't as 'outdoors' as they say they are.

People who like Australia generally always post positive things about Australia, fairly unfalteringly. Do you find that to be a problem?

Why then expect people who don't like Australia not to post negative things about it fairly consistently? Other than that it annoys you, of course.

What is your case??? This sounds like an obvious extension of your "Australia is Shit" thread.

I love the beach, and the outdoor lifestyle ... but I also enjoy watching live rugby and cricket matches so I have Foxtel. Just as much as I don't sit and watch TV 24 hours a day, I don't sit on the beach 24 hours a day either.

Get a life mate 'cos at the rate you're going everything is going to be one disappointment after the next!

Get told very often that TV/Radio quality in Australia is irrelevant because 'my lifestyle in Oz means I spend so much more time outside'. They leave out the bit about having Foxtel which, I cannot help but think, conflicts slightly with the whole 'outdoors lifestyle' thing.

That's all I am saying. Nothing wrong with having Foxtel, nothing wrong with wanting to watch something decent (Lord knows there's nothing on standard free view here) and I wouldn't even be commenting if I hadn't heard the 'outdoors lifestyle' cliche so many times.

But why do you have to turn every thread into that argument??????

You turned a music thread, a UK Muslim thread and now a Foxtel thread into how crap this country is. You have some real unresolved issues mate! If you are here against your will then I suggest you find a way of leaving as you are clearly not enjoying it

Did we forget to mention that we were watching Foxtel whilst at the beach, drinking wine in the dark, snorkelling & diving etc. etc. it's still better than watching it outside in the UK in the peeing down rain.

A fair point. I have no idea what possessed me to get it. I honestly watch less than 3 hours a week. Must be a throwback to the UK when the only thing to do was watch telly or look out the window at the rain;)
Tanning is mucho bad though! I always slip, slap slop. I usually go out in the sun afterwards though:D

Re: Changes To Foxtel

Back on to the original topic ... I just happened to receive a Foxtel flyer in the postbox today explaining the changes about to happen on the 15th of Nov.

30 new channels, but the fact that it's mentioned that they can be previewed free of charge until the 29h of Nov obviously indicates that they're all part of various packages. We only have the basic package + sports so unless some fall into the sports package I don't think we'd get any of them.

Mind you, it's just as well else we'd never get off the sofa to go to the beach ;)

I really dislike the new colours. Don't know why they chose them as they look like not much thought or flair has gone into the design. It looks like a temporary thing until the new corporate colors are launched. Also, I think the combination of colors used makes it harder to read, I have to use my glasses more than before.

Or maybe I just don't like change.

Oh, and by the way, yes, I was watching it on my waterproof telly whilst diving the great barrier reef.

I was watching mine on my super portable with its built in satellite dish whilst simultaneously hiking through the Blue Mountains and photographing the Glass House Mountains.

Anyway, the colours burn my eyes.

I do like the new planner options though.

Still nothing "new" for me here in Melbourne. Can someone confirm what the new IQ2 Software/EPG version should be ?

Pace IQ2 (via Satellite)
Software Version: 59.2.5.0.8.26
Operating System: CO21017
EPG Version: U_1.4.0.1

I have to say that I would download a lot less TV if 7 was on Foxtel. I generally watch me shows at unusual times due to work/family. I'm just not able to watch half the shows I would like to on 7, while there is nothing on 10 or Nine that I want to watch.

I'm really looking forward to Sunday they turn on the new satellite. Not for the "new" channels (none of which we will get, want or care about), but for the inclusion of 7 alone.

If they don't put on 7two then that is simply criminal, because 7 have shifted all their big name US shows to 7two!

Tip found on the interwebs

To force the update on the iQ (not the STB):

Press “back” & “select” on the front of the box at the same time for 3 secs, once all the lights apper on the front press “standby” “up” “down” “standby” the box will now update its software, after about 10 mins it will reboot
.

I don't take any responsibility for this working or not but some people on Whirlpool seem to have confirmed that it works

It was posted a couple pages back. It worked for me.

I'm also mostly excited about having channel 7 soon (I hope). We're on satellite so it's annoying that we can't tape the shows on 7 at the moment.

We find we miss all the channel 9 stuff as we forget what programmes they have and when.

We are in Sydney where they broadcast 7, 9, 10 etc via sat already - do they not do that in Melb etc. still??

Looks like we get lots more HD channels too - Sports 1, 2 and 3, Fox 8, UKTV - all HD now :)

And to the guy who's trying to turn this into an 'Australia is crap' thread - we will be whatching tv in the evenings this weekend after we've been walking, scuba diving, bbq-ing and swimming. Get over yourself.

Seeing all these previews for the Vancouver games with offers of signing up now appearing to indicate that Foxtel won't be providing the games on their standard sports channels. Is this the case?

If so, it seems a bit underhanded (no surprise really) that despite paying for the "sports" package the games aren't included on these channels and to get them you have to fork out more $$$.

I've always had 7 (and 7HD) on Foxtel! And 9 and 10..... I'm in Sydney.

I've noticed that as of yesterday I can also now get a lot of HD channels, W, UKTV and some movies, but not their 'normal' equivalents. Is this temporary? in an attempt to get me hooked and then sign up?

Well, Foxtel Satellite in Melbourne now, finally, has Seven. The only problem is that there is no Series Link on any of the shows. What a surprise, the most paranoid network in Australia doesn't want to help viewers watching through Foxtel.

UPDATE: Looks like 7two will be coming to Foxtel Satellite on 24th Nov.

I've been looking for that kind of news, so thanks. Did you see any news on Channel 9's Go channel ?

It was really interesting during the change. I just arrived home, prior to watching the Australia v Oman game.(jeez it was crap lol) For a little while there I thought I was going to miss out, as all the remote would bring up was searching for listings. Pressed the back button and got onto a channel and had to flick through 1 by 1 to get to sports. I had the "big picture" package before which is everything except for movies, without HD obviously. I notice that I now get showcomedy/action/drama oh and FMC.... which is a surprise to me.. are they going to take this off or is it considered part of the Big Picture package.

Sadly it's not going to be. I would suggest it's a East Coast/West Coast issue with the satellites footprint (although I don't know why)

FOXTEL: Yes the channel [7two] will be broadcast on Foxtel cable from 24th November. Foxtel Satellite will be available in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane only from the 24th November as well.

I have noticed that Foxtel, being Australian, is far superior to Sky, which is typical of the sort of crap you get living in Britain.

You must be on cable? Cable has had it for a long time but they didn't have the satellite capacity for re-transmission for a while.

I still don't get 7HD/10HD through Foxtel though...

Yes, you will need Foxtel but Eurosport has just come through on Foxtel with the recent update so from next year Toby and Julian will be back - thank goodness as the presenters on Fox Sports are dull! Plus if you get a package with Eurosport you will probably get qualifying which you don't through Fox Sports (except the GP from Philip Island)

Foxtel have lots of offers on - well one each month. We got free IQ (same as Sky +) plus free set up in the bedroom and one month free. Wait and see what offers they have when you arrive.

I have everything with Telstra. I got a contact mobile, landline, internet and foxtel. I am pretty happy with it all at the moment although I have had to increase my broadband supply. Shop around though. I didn't do that enough. Lots of people on here recommend iinet for phone and broadband. Telstra will, no matter what have your landline so you will still receive a bill from them. A bit like BT.

Really? In what way? I think Sky is far superior to Foxtel. Compare monthly charges and you get far more channels on Sky than you do on Foxtel. OK you never watch most of them but at least they are available.
